I know there is an LJ community specifically for this, but I reckon my Flist Fu, is better than a random community when it comes to book knowledge and especially when it comes to sci-fi book knowledge.
So I'm looking for the author / title of two books I read whilst at school (many years ago).Below I shall recall as much as I can about each book. I've tried my google Fu, but it has failed me.
EDIT book one has been identified!
Book One = Noah's Castle by John Rowe Townsend
Book one:
Teen sci/fi by a british (male?) author. About the British economy crashing and money becoming worthless. the male protagonists fatehr saw the crash coming and stockpiled food in a hidden basement room. There were allusions to castele, (or perhaps an actual moat). There was lots of talk of a man's home being his caste. An old lady gets mugged for a tin of sardines, and the whellbaroow ( trolley?) full of seterling notes she was carrying is left untouched. The prtagonists feels very gulity about his family having so much food stockpiled in secret when his neighbours and firneds are starving.
No idea when it was published. Apparenlty it's a really famouse social sci/fi about economics and self preservationa nd we studied it for frackin english (firs yaer of gcse's), but i have NO idea what it's called. ( oh the shame)
Book 2:
Set in Ameria. Involves alien invasion by a species which look like small yappy dogs (only bigger versions of). They capture the main progatonist / narrator and use him to grow the mold they eat. I remember this distinctly. He had a small yappy type dog which they didn't hurt as they thought dogs (looking like them) were distantly related. The main narrator (there was more than one) may have been a high school football player.
I think it was aimed at the late teen market but cannot be sure. I suspect the title may have had the word farmer in it (and indeed for ages I suspected it was Asimov's
Farmer in the sky, but it is not).
Any help MUCh appreciated.
So c'mon flist. wow me.
