I know there is an LJ community specifically for this, but I reckon my Flist Fu, is better than a random community when it comes to book knowledge and especially when it comes to sci-fi book knowledge ( Read more... )

Sadly not!

Mind, I am now wondering about a series set in a broken England, where technology ceased to work and all the adults regress mentally to the Dark Ages.

Centres on a couple of kids escaping (they jump a fishing boat and flee to France, IIRC), then in a later book they come back. They get parachuted or helicoptered in with a couple of volunteers, get a classic Rolls Royce from the Motor Museum & set out to try to find the cause...

Good stuff, mostly, as I recall.

Those at least, are Peter Dickinson's Changes books. They are The Devil's Children, Heartsease and The Weathermonger...

Hello! Two things!
1) Got your letter, will reply! Thank you! It was so exciting to get a letter!
2) I'll be at B-movie next week, but please look after me a bit, as my usual main B-movie comrade isn't going.

I'm a big sci fi nerd, but have never heard of either of those.

However, I am going to a sci fi convention this weekend, and will ask around.

I asked around. No one knew the second book, but the owner of Other Change of Hobbit suggested submitting it to their Lost Stories page, and their experts will try and dig it out of their brains.

Afraid I can't help and am also wondering what the first one is as I believe I may have read it at school as well...

Don't recognise either of them, I'm afraid. But if you have access to usenet, it might be worth asking on rec.arts.sf.written. Standard procedure is to put the string YASID (for "yet another story id") in the subject line.
