Airport Shenanigans

Sep 05, 2005 00:13

We had an interesting adventure this morning as I tried to get nuclearf0x on a plane home. First obstacle: muukau went to work with my keys which I'd left in her bag the previous night on our excursion to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. A hunt for spares yields nil (Note to self: wtf?!).

Anyways, she races home with keys. No worries, thinks I, we're still on time. Cue halfassed attempt to get out the door while I repeatedly leave vital things behind. My delay plus time spent in Port Melbourne traffic does not bode well.

We get to the airport, well into the minimum 30 minute check in time. I drive up to the terminal, throw Pete out of the car and head off to find a park. When I do finally return, the cue is huge. By the time we get to the front of it, his flight is closed (*dramatic chord* You lose sukka!). We're directed to the service desk to see if he can hop on the next flight. The price of success is $50. We're now forwarded to the self check in computer terminals. I wasn't aware that passengers with baggage to check in could use these, but apparently so. There is a dedicated desk to drop your bag off once the terminal issues your ticket. Had we realised this earlier, nuclearf0x could have made is flight.

Oh well, lesson learned. Walk to the gate. Farewell. Then I run off to get to work. I manage to get there 5 minutes early (with only a minor violation of the traffic laws). I should stop doing this, management might expect me to start a trend.

escapades, work
