It's snowing today for the first time this winter season, which is actually kind of early for Porltand. We usually don't get snow until closer to the new year, or even after. But now it's snowing, and it's snowing fast and hard, with fat fat flakes. It's totally beautiful, and made even more beautiful by the fact that I don't have to work today, so I can just say, "Snow! Pretty!" and not have to worry about how I'll have to drive through it.
You know what also helps? I just got the Sufjan Stevens' "Songs for Christmas" boxset, with all the Christmas eps he's released from over the last five years. It's totally and completely awesome. I love every bit of it. Now, I worked many, many Christmas' in a music store, so I have heard more Christmas music than you can shake a stick at. A lot of it is quite bad, but there is actually some good stuff out there, which I collect when I can. Sufjan's music is definately up there with the very good. I've decided to upload a few to YSI, if you guys would like to check them out.
Here are a couple of his originals:
Christmas in July and
Sister Winter.
Here are a couple of his renditions of some classics/traditionals:
Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing and
I Saw Three Ships.
This also made me think that about sending out some Christmas mixes with my cards and non-holiday mixes. This would be pretty easy, because I could just make a copy of the same mix for anyone who wanted one. I was thinking of making what I consider a best of Christmas music mix, and/or and best of the Sufjan boxset mix. So... a poll!
Poll If you never signed up to get and card and/or mix from me, then you need to go
here and fill in the poll.
So, in conclusion, yay snow!
