william finally called from tour...they are in ISRAEL right now and have been for several days. i didnt speak with him because i am in class, but my mom said he has never sounded so happy and said that jerusalem is the most amazing place he has ever been (he has gotten to go all over the place...new zealand, brazil, russia, all of europe, australia...i guess asia and africa have yet to be done...), and that they have seen all of the tourist sites (wailing wall, site of the last supper, christ's grave, etc).
the thing i found most interesting to hear, though, is that when my mom asked him about the fighting going on between israel and palestine, he said that it felt like it was another world. besides hearing the planes at night, flying to their bombing sites in palestine, he has seen no sign of war. when he called, he was even in the palestinean area of jerusalem (not in the gaza strip, but very close) and said everyone is out on the streets, women in burkas, men playing card games, children selling small candies and what not.
