Whoo-hah!
Finished the short story. It was pretty much a joy from start to finish, the most fun I've had with a rough draft in a very long time. It was also a real story, one that surprised me again and again until the end, when I looked at the page and said to myself, triumphantly, that though it could have ended any number of ways, that *this* is the right one. Of course, my opinion will mellow with time (it always does), but for the moment I definitely think this is one of my better works.
On a related note, I also just finished editing another story, the short fantasy that I've been kind of lukewarm on. Don't have much to say about that one until I get some readers for it, which basically leaves just the novella on my plate for now.
