Pumpkin pie

How can it be that nearly an entire week has passed since Thanksgiving? It is December Eve, and how fitting that I saw the first snow of the season this morning (I refuse to count the few spare flakes meandering about the other afternoon on my way to school). I still feel as though this year has completely escaped me; it has been rather difficult for me to reconcile with time. I realise that my disillusionment with it is largely because of me - I am in my head much more than I am out there, existing in the moment. I never knew I would end up my very own thief. I must resolve to change this.

Before heading out with Sean Wednesday night, I baked some cranberry / white chocolate chip cookies whilst enjoying a 12 Dogs of Christmas ale. We then went to Jason and Sandra's for some pizza and pancake breakfast beer (I do not mean to sound insulting; the beer was delicious and reminded me of maple) prior to going out for drinks. It was Jason's sister Laura's twenty-first birthday which led us to the Valley. I hadn't been there since St. Patrick's Day of 2006; needless to say, nothing looked very familiar to me at all. Anyway, Sean and I hung out with Jason, Sandra, Matt, and Laura for a bit until we decided to meet up with Craig, who happened to be in town from South Carolina for Thanksgiving and was out somewhere round the valley bars with Jim, Kelley, Mike, and Robert. We all ended up going to Jim's shortly after we arrived at the bar they were at. It had been my first time meeting Craig, and I felt myself enjoying his company immensely. After a little while at Jim's, we drove home and quite easily succumbed to sleep.

Sean and I spent Thanksgiving apart, as our families were having dinner at the same time. He left early to assist his grandmother with the turkey, and I spent the morning making green bean casserole (soy milk in lieu of regular, cream of potato instead of mushroom, loads of pepper, and extra french fried onions - this is the Stephy twist). I went to my sister's about 2:30 and had an absolutely lovely holiday. Despite still being sick, I managed to luxuriate in every moment that afternoon. Vegetarian stuffing, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, sweet potato casserole, among many other treats. And it was especially nice catching up with my beloved brothers. Since Mom's birthday was the twenty-sixth, my sister made a cake and we gave her gifts. The children dutifully insisted on helping her blow out the candles, like always.

When I got home later that evening, I was so elated to see Sean that I swear I could have held on to him for hours.

Since I had the next day off, I just slept and did some reading. When Sean got home from work, we went to Sakura for some sushi and then went bowling with Jim, Craig, and Mike. The weekend ended up being fairly tame in comparison - on Saturday night we made hummus and watched some Law & Order SVU, and I spent much of Sunday writing a term paper for my Applied Conflict Management class. Speaking of which, I really should have spent tonight studying for final exams. My rationale for not doing so consisted of telling myself, "Oh, but you have two weeks!" And how quickly this turns into, "But...you have two days. Two whole days!" Well, at the very least, I am becoming much more astute at recognizing patterns.
