last weekend i had a backache...and my neck was really stiff...i thought it was just because i had slept wrong or something...as i woke for work on sunday, the aching was almost too much to bare...so what did this future nurse do?...i took 2 ibuprofens and sent my butt straight into work where i would be sure to do some heavy lifting and back-work...all was fine and dandy until the drugs started to wear off...4 to 6 hours later...when i had the time to sit at work, i would curl up into the fetal position because that was the only way i could get comfort...my coworkers started to worry a bit...
didn't really sleep that night...drugs didn't work anymore...
when i woke up, i was ready to go to school, but something felt funny...after i took a shower, i took my own temperature and it was 101...AFTER A SHOWER (they're supposed to cool you off)...and rising...mom and dad were getting upset with me because i didn't want to go to the doctor...i needed to be in class to work on a group project...didn't want to let the group down...but then i started thinking aboot the worst of situations, which included everything from kidney infections and mono flare-ups to meningitis (!)...
yeah...left class early and went to the doctor (finally--i think nurses are some of the toughest people to treat...they're stubborn)...because i was scared that i had meningitis...i was anticipating a spinal tap and everything...
waited at the doctor's office for 2 hours...had signed in with complaints of "back ache, neck stiffness, and flu symptoms?"...i guess they didn't connect the 3 together because when i was checked up, the doc just said that i have some sort of infection in my throat, and then he prescribed me the z pak (zithromax--antibiotic), did some chiropractic work on my spine and neck, and had a medical assistant give me a shot in my butt (to help with the back pain)...it was the weirdest set of treatments i have ever had...and i even told him that i was worried about the back and neck pain...he didn't even consider any of the life threatening conditions i had been thinking of the whole morning...i thought it was kinda weird that a doctor wouldn't take all precautions and at least ask me relevant questions...
so i am at least feeling better now...i'm still incredibly fatigued...and the stupid antibiotics have made my stomach all jacked up...i am thankful that there wasn't anything too serious going on...afterall, can't afford to miss any school now...i have to graduate in 36 days (!)...by the way, i definitely have a job as a nurse when i'm done (that is a relief!)...yay!...
