Civics 101

Last night my sister told me something she learned in her Senior Government class: Virginia schools (and some business) are closed on election days (today)... even on off-year election days, as the Commonwealth of Virginia hold elections even on off-years.

I wish I had today off so I could ponder and pontificate my vote for municipal elections. Darn it! I hope you are enjoying your day off dude!

Anyway, I have been following the current race for Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia for two main reasons: 1) I have family there and 2) its more exciting than the Presidential Election. It's pure political swagger in action. Sad, but entertaining. For anyone who watched the "live presidential debate" on The West Wing, you know what I am talking about... a glimpse at an ideal campaign for office. The current race for Virginia Governor shows a complete lack of candor and true grit as displayed on the TV show. But of course since this is the real world, and politics do not come without its fair amount of BS. Still, it's exciting (though sometimes downright petty) and I am anxious to see what the outcome is, whatever side wins.

Also intriguing will be the nation's reactions to the various issues up on ballot in individual states today. Tomorrow will be an interesting day.
