Soldier of Knowledge - First Waterfall

[Ami awoke to the familiar, fuzzy haze of the early morning. Almost instantly she sensed that things were not right. Her surroundings, the fuzzy outlines of furniture, her position in the room and the size of her bed, were all out of place. Instinctively, Ami reached to the bedside table which normally would be where she placed her eyeglasses from ( Read more... )

Yeah, I can hear you. But if you want to speak in Japanese, I can do that, too- it's better to help someone out in their native language.

[Ami just begins to unwind a whirlwind of questions to the recipient on the other end, speaking in her native tongue of course.]

"Yes, can you hear me, Miss? My name is Ami Mizuno. I'm a ninth grade student at Jyuuban Junior High. Could you please tell me what is happening, if you known, of course? Where is this place? Is this even still Japan? It looks more like America than Japan.. Could you please help me? I'm in such a mess right now I don't know what to make of anything.."

[Okay, Japanese time, then!]

This isn't Japan, it's America. Or so they say. It's 1950's America, apparently. This place is called Mayfield and from what I've heard, a little girl called Lucy runs the place.

[There's a long pause before Ami speaks again. Seems the poor girl is at a loss for words. Normally, it would the kind of response her friend Usagi would make, but her inner Nippon girl takes hold and speaks for her.]

"Heeeee~h?! The nineteen fifties?! And.. And this is in America?!"

["A little girl called Lucy runs the place"? Ami could only assume, against her better judgment, that a youma was to blame for this. Perhaps this little girl was merely a youma possessing a young girl's body. Ami had seen this sort of thing before. However, she could not be brash or immediately jump to such conclusions before some small detective work.]

"Pardon me, Miss.. But.. Are you from this place?"

I'm not. Most of us aren't. The only ones that seem to be are the ones who act like this place is 'home'.

[Ami makes a note of this mentally. She'll need this information if she has any hope of surviving or getting back to where she belongs.]

"Ano~ Then I am not the only one taken from their home? I suspect that a lot of residents were brought here just as I was? Hmm.. We are both Japanese, but are you from Japan? Ah-I mean.. N-Not to sound rude.. But were you born there, I mean?"

Yeah, you're not. And I was born from Japan, too.

"Are all of the residents taken from Japan?"

[That would be the sure sign of a youma, no doubt about it!]

That would be funny... but they're not. Some people are from other worlds, actually.

"I'm sorry..? Did you say "other worlds"?"

[This was not painting such a decent picture for Ami's imagination.]

Yeah. That's exactly what I said.

".. Intriguing. What is the world you are from like? Ano.. If you don't mind me asking such, of course."

Well... it's pretty normal! Kind of like this place, except well, it's Japan.

"Aiyah! From the future?!"

[Ami should be used to some thing like this by now, but she still couldn't help but be surprised that there are time travelers in her life.]
