Well, the final decision is in. Actually it has been for since mid-feb. I didn't get the job I was posting for. I knew that to get it I would have to jump through some serious burning hoops. For starters, one of the other applicants was already a director. For them to decide to promote me from mgr to dir over another dir would have been unusual. They promoted the dir instead. The company also decided not to back-fill her position (a move I suspected would happen) and have her reorganize the department instead. I ended up going from one of two managers of associate training , with each of us reporting to a different director, to the senior manager of associate training with the other manager reporting to me. My group went from 13 to 21, and I now have total control of internal training for over 3000 people. If things go well in the next 12 to 18 months, I will have a staff of 35 and be responsible for all 6000 internals.
The woman they promoted is good, and is doing all the right things so far. I am not unhappy with the decision although I was naturally disappointed. It is what it is.
I got approached again about a job with another company. This time from an internal that knows my background. Not interested, although that could change in a heart beat in today's environment.
