hoLLand day 2

Jul 05, 2008 22:42

so yesterday i never got around to the sex, torture or hash museum.. but today i did two of the three.. both were pretty lame.. and the hash one looked just as lame and they were closing in 10 min so i decided to not go. I also randomnly stumbled upon the redlight district at about 9pm (and it was still pretty light out!) all I can say is wow!.

earlier today - I took a full day tour of north and south Holland. Generally I'm against taking tours, however since I have such a short time in the Netherlands, i figured this was the best way I could see some of the country outside Amsterdam. lots of cows. goats. and more cows. saw a few windmills, however most of them were in the open air park/museum. saw demonstrations on woodenclog making.. and was tempted to by myself a pair, but at 80 euros a pair, I decided against it. We also went to a cheese farm.. though we only saw the machines that are used to make the cheese- no actual demonstrations. there were cheese tastings and I bought some really good smoked pepper cheese, lets see if it lasts once I get back to the usa. its suppose to last 2 months unrefrigrated.

After the cheese farm, we went to two small fishing villages.. really cute and quaint. Had my first (and last) try of raw herring.. I can see why fish eaters would like it, but I generally don't like fish..so this didn't do well with me. But I got a few bites in with sips of water in between. I also tried the Fries with Mayo - which were pretty good, though not as great as people make them out to be- however they may be better in belgium. and I had dutch pancake as well.. though I didn't likethe cheese on it too much. so today was the day of dutch food.

the bus tour also took us through the city of Haag (hague) looks like DC. Even though Amsterdam is the capital, the Hague holds all the govt buildings and officials. last stop on the bus tour was this place that had miniture holland.

Tomorrow I'm off to boat tour - if it doesn't rain. Anne frank house, may a few more museums and wander around.. then the 2 hour train ride to Antwerp belgium.
