OKAY NANOWRIMO KITTY I WILL TRY MY BEST TO SAVE YOU

8274 / 50000 words. 17% done!

On Thursday I didn't do my last 500 words; on Friday I didn't do anything. So far today I've done ~2000 and this post is really just a brief diversion before I go do another 2k.

-- My protagonist is now headed to Indiana, to a superhero research facility

-- This novel's focus might be completely and totally different from what I originally thought it was going to be, but that's okay BECAUSE:

-- My novel is awesome.

When Neddy woke up from her half-drowse the next morning, she was in a foul mood. She felt practically hungover. Her body was screaming for coffee and cigarettes. She levered herself out of bed, forced herself into the kitchen, and started the coffeemaker, then went hunting through all of her drawers for any pack she might have forgotten about. Ten minutes later she'd located a slightly sad-looking cigarette behind her typewriter and her coffee was done brewing. Her only clean mug was the one whose handle had been snapped off. She drank it quickly and grimaced. It was definitely time to buy more sugar.

----

She tapped on his door in a parody of politeness and waltzed in without waiting for a response. "You wanted to see me?"

"Yes. Why am I paying the police station bail? You're clearly not in jail."

Neddy shrugged. "Cormac worked it out."

"Your cop friend? He couldn't work out bail, too?"

"It's not my problem. I have an account for shit like this."

----

To her utmost surprise, when she got to the house, he was already awake and sitting up in bed, reading a book. "I didn't know you could read," she said reflexively.

He raised his head. "Good to see you too, Ned. What's happening?"

"Nothing you need to strain yourself over. You look pretty good for someone who almost died yesterday." She eyed him suspiciously. "Been eating your vegetables?"

That last bit? I wrote myself into a corner, and then I plotted my way out. I really like where this is going.
