Apparently the USA has something called the "Patriot Act" - part of this is that the CIA can subpoena something like the sales records of a bookstores reader's club to find out what people have been reading. One particular bookstore trashed this information to avoid ever being subpoenaed.

What sort of country is American really. Are their rights protecting their citizenry, or are they restraining them?
