Heh, I think it's pretty funny that two words and a cultural communication gap can cause so much debate. "Kimochi warui" - the last words uttered in Evangelion, courtesy of Asuka - have spurned so many different theories and arguments it's almost silly. I tend to side with MdWig's explanation (http://www.mdwigs.tk/). I also tend to agree that the most direct English translation is "how disgusting", especially when you take into context when and how the phrase is said.
The "last words" debate is only more proof that Evangelion is truly amazing. The more times I watch the series, and read different theories, and figure everything out on my own, the more I respect it. The intricacy of just the surface plot - psychological themes, undertones, etc. aside - is mindboggling.
Honestly, anyone who dislikes this series simply has bad taste. There's no other explanation.
