They have been doing some screenshot roundups on certain web sites lately of the newest build of OS X Leopard (10.5) and it looks like Apple is in love with the polished metal look that they started with iTunes and iLife. I've even seen a screenshot that indicated the toolbox titlebars like the one on top of "About This Mac" and perhaps regular Aqua titlebars are being changed to this style as well.
Personally I would rather they go with the white unified look for everything but this may not be the final look they go with after all. It is being delayed until november after all which gives them time. All I know is I don't like the way it looks when you have a bunch of dark grey windows and then a white shiny menubar. See my last screenshot? That's how I'd prefer the default look to look... (not the icons though it should have Apple icons). Either that or make it all dark polished metal including the menubar and window backgrounds.
Think Secret has the screeenshots I know as an Apple fan I'm supposed to just like those changes but I hope it doesn't bring difficulties to theming like the present iApps have.. so far I haven't seen anything (either Shapeshifter or Installers) theme the windows of iPhoto and iWeb and while it is possible to theme Garageband not many people have. But the main difficulty seems to be those dark grey polished metal windows. But perhaps in the finder for example it's just changed the same way a themer would change it so it wouldn't be harder to change with a theme than before.
Hopefully Unsanity will have a solution for us when Leopard comes out or shortely thereafter. While Leopard still has the best constructed windows with the most consistent functions on each window Mac OS has become a mish mash of themes lately. I use skins to fix that. I used to hate the white unified windows but they have since become themeable so I don't mind them as much now but they still do need work so you can put textures in them like with Bister. Sometimes I am in the mood for a bright smooth theme and sometimes I like to have a dark theme.. perhaps with texture in it.
In the end I can't help but feel that moving to polished metal is just change for the sake of change.
