Theater Stuff.....

Something interesting I noticed at the big theater today. I noticed a lot of people who had their own outside food waiting to see a movie out in the hallway. I guess the Century Rio doesn't have a rule against outside food like the dollar movies do? Maybe it's because the dollar movies makes all their money from the snack bar? I can't say I blame the people who brought their own food to century rio though the prices of the food there is crazy.. my dad bought 3 drinks.. two medium popcorns and two boxes\bags of candies and it costed twenty five dollars bringing the whole cost of the trip to around fifty dollars for three people. I guess that might not sound like much to some of you out there but it does to me.

Another thing I noticed when it comes to snacks is that they have two kinds of snack-bars close together there.. one has the typical theater stuff and the other has gourmet and cafe stuff. At the regular bar you get nachos that come with a little cup of cheese and and at the other bar you get gourmet nachos with more ingredients and more cheese. I'm almost like who wants those other pitiful nachos when you can get those other gourmet nachos.. but i assume those other ones are more expensive to boot.

I noticed they have upgraded the theater to be able to display "REALD" 3D cinema. A newer type of 3D that is superior to the old anaglyph red and cyan glasses 3D. It uses the "polarized" method that uses slightly tinted glasses with a different shade of tint on each lense. I have tried a similar system before when I saw Captain EO at Disneyland and it does give a very pronounced 3D effect. I just didn't think this system would be brought to my state it didn't seem like it was going to and suddenly it has popped up in my local cinema. Too bad it didn't come in time for nightmare before christmas 3D though.. and I sort of wish it would come to more movies than just Disney.

I heard quite a bit of high profile directors are on board and it may not be too long before we can see more movies with REALD. This is something we probably won't see at home soon as I am not sure how they would do a polarized 3D film on a typical home screen.

My family told me they opened a similar theater in Santa Fe. I guess they are really successful since they have around 3 multiplexes here.. own at least two dollar movies here and now they might be opening up some in Santa Fe.

*edit* Wait a minute.... I thought that Nightmare Before Christmas 3D had already come and gone.. but it's coming out THIS fall along with a 3D Vincent short before the film starts.... hmm.... I guess I may be able to see it after all. Since there is a theater that is prepared here in my town to play 3D movies in time for it.
