This has been a hard week for reasons I can't even pin down.
wojelah suggested "Bar Detox" and that makes about as much sense as anything. I am still without employ and I desperately miss feeling like a productive member of society (which is not strictly an employment thing - I have no significant other or kids and I could honestly go over a week

This manifesto tells you pretty much what you need to know about the main characters. Darcy was a character made up for the movie, to be the audience stand-in, so pretty much everything we learned about her came straight from the film. As stated, Hawkeye only got 2 minutes of film (during which he was referred to by his last name and not as Hawkeye) so most of the info comes from the comics. He's had a few different backgrounds in different comics continuities but all we know for sure in the movieverse is that at the time of Thor, he's one of the S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel deployed to New Mexico with Agent Coulson. (Remember him from Iron Man?)
I pulled in Tony and Pepper from Iron Man and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Natasha Romanoff (codename: Black Widow) from Iron Man 2. She was played by Scarlett Johansson and was undercover at Stark Industries as Natalie Rushman until Tony completely melted down and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) intervened. (I can't remember if you saw Iron Man 2. It was weaker than than the first movie because it depended a lot on the audience already loving the characters from the original, but it wasn't terrible or anything, and there's no reason for Target not to have it in stores. *cough*)
***Spoilers for Thor***
For as far as I've written, Thor has not actually appeared in my story. However, here is the movie summary. Thor (Chris Hemsworth, aka Jim Kirk's doomed daddy) is stripped of his powers and banished from Asgard by his father, Odin (Anthony Hopkins) for basically being an arrogant SOB and disregarding a peace treaty between Odin and the leader of the Frost Giants. He lands on Earth, followed by his big magic hammer Mjolnir (which draws S.H.I.E.L.D.'s attention) and is immediately hit by Jane Foster (an astrophysicist played by Natalie Portman), Darcy (her intern), and Erik Selvig (Jane's mentor, played by Stellan Skarsgaard.) There is bonding and Thor and Jane fall in love.
MEANWHILE, back in Asgard, Odin falls into his restorative "Odinsleep" and his adopted other son, Loki, sort of usurps the throne and enforces Thor's banishment. (Fandom *hearts* Loki. He did get a raw deal and he did love Thor and I do believe he didn't mean for some of his tricks to turn out the way he did. But he's the villain of the film. He also does not show up in the fic, although I may need him later.)
Thor's friends (Sif, Hogun, Volstagg, and Fandral, who also do not appear in my story) go to Earth to bring Thor home against Loki's wishes so Loki sends the "Destroyer" robot after them which marches on the town where Jane's little team is sheltering Thor. Blah blah fight scene, Thor sacrifices himself, which triggers some clause in the banishment spell that gives him his powers back and restores Mjolnir to him, and he comes back to life and defeats the robot.
He leaves Jane to go back to Asgard to defeat Loki but promises to return. Like most guys who say they'll call and don't, it's because Thor had to sever the "rainbow bridge" known as the Bifrost (Jane suspects it's an Einstein-Rosen bridge, aka a wormhole) to keep Loki from blowing up the homeworld of the Frost Giants. (Who used to be bad guys but have basically just been sulking under their peace treaty until Loki started interfering. Also note that Loki turns out to be a Frost Giant but was adopted by Odin and never told of his heritage. Error.)
Odin wakes up in time to save his sons from falling off the broken Bifrost, but Loki lets go and plummets to his supposed demise. (We later see he is "haunting" Erik, which I have completely avoided addressing in my story since he/they is/are slated to be the villain in Avengers.)
Thor is emo because he misses his brother and Jane and can't figure out how to get back to Earth. I have no idea how they get him back for the Avengers movie. Jane is looking for Thor.
I am pretending that S.H.I.E.L.D. is hanging around New Mexico trying to help Jane get Thor back. At least until other things take precedence.
I probably just gave you WAY too much background for the story, since most of it is comics and fanon and crack. But now you know. And knowing is half the battle.

The actress who plays Darcy, Kat Dennings? Used to date Matthew Gray Gubler. When I found that out I was all, "Aaaaaaaah! Fandoms COLLIDE!" And then was all, "The BAU comes to New Mexico..."
I have no Darcy OR Reid icons. FAIL.
