I've reached the point where I'm starting to look forward to the show...therefore Fox will cancel it any minute now. Heh. I also enjoyed the show, even if it is a little uneven when it comes to historical accuracy. I did love John's reaction to the rape in 1803. I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about inbred reactions and cultural conditioning and that's one of the things that always bugged me about Highlander, that Duncan automatically had the 'right' modern/liberal/whatever reaction to things in the past.
Apparently this episode made a bunch of people stop watching? I'm like, really? But yeah, I've heard it's been knocked down to 7 episodes from the original 13, so that's not a good sign. It does explain the incredibly quick progression noted in the shallow observation section though. :P
I thought the writer's strike had something to do with the 13 to 7 episodes....eh. It's a show I like and it's on Fox so it had two strikes against it from the start.
Yeah...I've seen a few people who were offended by the modern rapist plot.
Oh yay! Someone made the "Why does Sara look like a reject from Grey's Anatomy?" leap I did. I feel so much better. Maybe less snarkier, but oh well. For some reason, I keep hoping we'll hear a Zathras. "Not the One." Or as jms used to say whenever anyone asked that about Sheridan and/or Sinclair -- "The one what?"
I do love New Amsterdam. This episode wasn't my favorite, but still miles better than some other stuff out there. Which means it'll fail. *sighs*
I'm not liking Sara at all now. Mostly because I like everyone else better. John was hardcore flirting with her, and she responded without mentioning that she's married. I wonder how long it would have taken her to tell him if he hadn't run into her husband. Plus she completely accepted his non-explanation of COMING BACK FROM THE DEAD. She's just not interesting, and yeah, they're moving way too fast. She's totally not the One.
GO EVA (although I'm not sold on John/Eva AT ALL.)!!!!! And all his flashback girls!
Rewatching, I think I was more interested in John/Eva in the first episode than in any subsequent - there was a bit when they're in the bar at the end that's kind of interesting. But since then, it's been more buddy-buddy, and not in the "let's slash them" way.
I think I started and stopped watching Grey's Anatomy on the episode where Addison Montgomery Sheppard showed up, so that bodes ill. I was hoping they were going to do something interesting about love that is "Meant to Be" vs. love that perseveres by shared lives and hard work, but I am skeptical. I still love John for all his bitchiness, though.
Also, reccea and I were watching this last one together and she said, "Okay, it's official. I like all John's exes better than Sara." So you are totally not alone.
