There is one year between the two episodes.

She could be a Junior, in which case one year later ...well... what time of year is graduation? Or she could be a senior ( which would work better for me.) Or they could be *almost* graduated... although it would be strange to let anyone know about the Stargate before they were ABSOLUTLEY signed on.

(I am assuming that - unlike civilian colleges, there is no mid-year graduation or summer classes.)

She's wearing 1/c (senior year) insignia - I went back and checked. But then the dialogue muddles things by having Sam refer to the guy she hit as an upperclass instead of a classmate ( ... )

Good point. Mary Sue Hailey is a serious bitch - not something one picks up overnight.

Maybe it's like with Doctors? From my ancient VA experience, I remember that they got away with mucho crap. Because they were *doctors* and the program *needed* them.

Maybe with the SG the Airforce is anticipating a serious need for theoretical astrophysicists, and so they're making every effort to salvage people they would otherwise dump?
