Annual Review of the Year's Best

Dec 19, 2007 11:44

I am still alive and well everyone, Christmas season takes alot out of a fellow like myself.

Anyways I thought I would just post to give you a little insight to the years top 5 albums. In my opinion anyways.

5. Sun Kil Moon - Ghosts of the Great Highway.

This album gives an eerie resemblence to a Neil Young album. Very soothing vocals with just the right amount of rock to make it worth your while. The album has quite a few layers of diversity with the highlight of the album being the 15 minute song "Duk Koo Kim." Perfect listening record for a long trip down a winding road.

4. Interpol - Our Love to Admire.

Fairly good follow-up to Antics, I honestly didn't exactly enjoy this album right off the bat, but the album has grown on me since and it is so refreshing to hear somebody sing without sounding like a whiny grade-schooler. The album has a very nice mix of quick slashing guitars with the quick drumbeat that will keep you engaged at all times. Highlight of the album is the song "There's no I in Threesome."

3. The National - Boxer.

Buy far the biggest surprise for me as a music lover, downloaded the album, hated it. Listened to it a few more times, started to dig it, now it's never out of my cd player. Best voice in the business right now. Mood stricken instruments with the subtle hint of rock and roll. This is Leonard Cohen meets Sufjan Stevens. Nice mix within the disc. Highlight of the album (Mistaken for Strangers.)

2. Caribou - Andorra.

This was a tough decision between the top 2. This album is their best. The diversity astounds me, Caribou has made the jump from basically Psych-noise to Psychedelia in general. This album can compete with the 13th Floor Elevators, Strawberry Alarm Clock, and even Pink Floyd. This band has grown into one of the best bands in the world and hopefully will rival Radiohead at some point. Highlight of the album (Melody Day.)

1. Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga.

The clincher for this being number 1 is the song The Underdog. If this song doesn't put a smile on your face there is something wrong with you. There are about 6 or 7 very good songs on this album, all of which I have put on mixed discs. This band somehow is still staying off the radar somewhat, but I don't anticipate that for much longer. There is no better album in my collection as we speak. This is a true rock band that is getting better and better with each album, this is what Weezer set out to be originally until the record labels got a hold of them. Highlight of the album (Don't you Evah)
