Increasing the Holiday Haul...

Dec 30, 2007 04:16

So, today was my day to exchange the one gift that needed exchanging & pick up some "everyday" studio supplies-- i.e. the "household" chemical type stuff. Poked through the kitchen gadget place at the mall & was pleased to find some bamboo tongs for cheap so I can now safely pull my metals bits out of an etching bath safely. (Sometimes, it's a wonder I have fingers...) I've also got a nice big box of borax & the biggest jug of denatured alcohol I could find so I can mix up some of that nifty firescale preventer we used at the workshop over the summer. I even got a cheap glass jar with a lid to keep it in. Now I just have to find my notes so I have the right ratio of stuffs & mix it up. Yay for less pickling! :-)

I also picked up some silicone bathtub sealant & what I hope is plasticine- the idea being to make a quicky mold of the eye brooch that didn't cast properly so I can remake the wax & try casting it again. Apparently, no one under the age of 30 has any idea of what plasticine is, which makes it somewhat hard to locate in stores.

But getting back to the holiday bit... I took the Pan's Labyrinth DVD back to the place GeekBro got it & they had the two disc version-- used, so it was only $2 more than the single disc version. I also opted to spend my gift money from Aunt D because they were having a huge sale on the TV series DVD collections so Season Three of Stargate-Atlantis was only $25!!!! Yay!!! I've finally seen the second half of the mid-season break! I was downloading it from iTunes but then my computer crapped out & wouldn't play videos at all any more. (grumble grumble) Since Mom went down to Aunt D's for the night to watch the Penn State game, I watched a couple of SG-A episodes (had to see the end of the two-parter after all) & proceeded to watch Pan's Labyrinth & just about all of the extra bits with it. Del Torro has some interesting things to say about myths & fairy tales.
