First real ride of the season!

Mar 06, 2010 14:24

Distance: 26.5 miles
Time: 2 hours, 31 minutes
Average Speed: 10.6 mph

Not bad for a first ride! 26 miles was definitely hitting my limit for distance, but that won't take long to build back up.

I'm excited - I'm already registered for The Prouty again this year. It's a massive cancer research fundraiser (last year had about 8,000 participants and raised over $2 million). Last year, I did the 50-mile route. This year, I'm currently registered for the 100-mile century route, and am considering doing the Prouty Ultimate - which is a 2-day, 200-mile route. (Advantage of the Ultimate: I'd get free professional massages after both legs of the journey...). I've got a lot more time to train this year, with not taking classes, graduating, or moving, and spring coming earlier, so I could handle the Ultimate... Hmmm...

However, I do need to acquire myself a proper road bike. I've been using a hybrid bike, as I do like exploring dirt roads a lot. However, I do enough biking at this point (about 1,500 miles over the past two years - not including commuting to work when it's decent weather out), that I think a second bike would actually be a good investment for me. Does anyone have any thoughts on good brands / features / other advice? I'm not looking for a racing bike, but just something that'll be a little more efficient for commuting, occasional fundraising rides like The Prouty, and recreational rides on paved roads.
