Without the jars of moonshine, the hut was almost empty. Radek had left them with Bond, figuring that was really the best place for them, and luckily, the other man had been up to making the trips. Because Radek wasn't sure he could make multiple trips. One had been enough.

He hadn't touched a drop since Tuesday night, and he could feel the lack of it, hands shaking and breathing never quite steady enough. He didn't feel like himself, felt like some deranged stranger, without any control or meaning behind them, and the only place he really trusted himself to be was in bed, since obviously he couldn't trust himself, after the way he'd snapped at Ragetti for being the way he always was.

He wasn't tired like he had been the past week. Now, when he wanted to sleep, figuring that would make it better, now he was wide awake. He closed his eyes, and it didn't make him any more tired, but at least with them shut they couldn't betray him. This way the walls wouldn't twist. This way he was safe.

He didn't know how long he could manage this.
