Engagement
"This is not quite the atmosphere I expected when you ordered me to meet you," Draco said, as he sat down at the dining table across his mother.
The Eiffel tower in the background was far more romantic than he thought a dinner with his mother was necessary.
"The atmosphere is more for your benefit. And I ordered you to meet with me, because I was informed that you are doing something incredible stupid again;" his mother replied.
Draco already knew what his mother was going to say, he was just not certain if he wanted to hear it.
"I see Harry did contact you."
"Since you made it unable for him to contact you, what choice did he have?"
"But did he tell you the truth? Or are you even interested in the truth and what I have to say?"
"Draco, I love you, I adore you, and I will do anything for you. But we both know you tend to overdramatisice things that affect you. "
"So you won't hear me out?" Draco asked, surprised with how hurt he felt about that.
"Of course I will hear you out, and listen to all your explanations, and if that is really your decision, I will be completely on your side."
Draco reached for his water glass, relieved. He didn't want to lose his mother... certainly not when he was losing his boyfriend.
"Come now, tell me? Why did you ran away, close up the manor and for lack of a better word relocate to Paris?"
"Is that what he told you? That I simply left? Because I tried to explain it to him," Draco protested.
"Explain what?"
"Explain, that I am just not good enough for him? He is Harry Potter, wherever he goes, people adore him. And he wants to have a big family... something I don't really see myself with. And he just deserves better... we fight a lot, we have different schedules, his friends loathe me, my friends hate him. This is just not what he deserves."
"And what does he deserve?" His mother asked.
"Well, a peaceful and happy life. Where he gets to do what he wants and doesn't have to fight all the time."
"And your answer to him was to leave? Without a letter, a call, or a talk? Because you want him to be happy?"
"I did talk to him. And he refused to listen. And then..."
"And then what?" She asked again.
"He proposed. What was I supposed to do?"
"Answer the question? That would be how reasonable people do it?" Narcissa asked again.
"I could never say know of him," Draco mumbled. "It's not like I don't love him, or want him for my own... it's just... I am well aware of my flaws, even if you like to pretend I am not. And I know more than anybody else that he deserves better. So much better than I can give him."
"You are a moron," Harry said, appearing from Draco did not know where. "I don't want anybody better. I want you, and only you. You are all I need to be happy."
