My Oscar night

Feb 26, 2007 21:13

I dare say that I had a most perfect Oscar night.

No parties, no guests. Even skipped the AOF Gala.

Instead, it was
nakednsfand me, in our pjs, drinking champagne and forwarding through all the boring parts (i.e. speeches by anyone not famous).

The low key plan allowed ample time for Tom to study for his exam this morning and for me to cook.

And cook I did.

First was an Orange Pineapple Carrot Cake. I am the BIGGEST fan of carrot cake and I was having a hankerin’, so I tried it out. It was deeeelish. And I made it sans-icing, so as not to feel quite so bad about scarfing down a few pieces before dinner.

During the tail-end of the red carpet arrivals, we snacked on Sweet Potato Fries with basil salt, which I saw Giada make Saturday morning. They were quite good, if a bit mushy, especially with the low-fat garlic aioli we dipped em in.

Dinner was Butternut Squash and Caramelized Onion Soup from Alfred Portale’s Simple Pleasures, an early b-day gift from my mom. (Portale is the guy behind Gotham B&G in NY, which you may have read me gushing about in the past.) It’s served like French Onion soup, so we filled two big ramekins with soup, topped em with baguette slices and a whole lotta grated gruyere, and threw em in the broiler for a few minutes. The results was heaven in a bowl.

And for the record…

My 5 Best Dressed list: Mirren, Winslet, Witherspoon, Blanchett, Cruz. All stunning dresses, all stunning women.

My 5 Worst Dressed list: J. Hud (wtf with that bolero?), J. Lo, Preston (animal print is SO last year), Hathaway, Beyonce (what was with the pooka shells??).

food, oscars
