Look, I have now belatedly completed the Lyric Meme!

Lyrics of a song that reminds you of your first love:
(well, this instead)

Jane says I’ve never been in love
She don’t know what it is

- Jane Says, Jane’s Addiction

(I used to Like this song, but now realize it’s sort of inane and doesn’t make much sense. Whatever.)

Lyrics of a song that reminds you of a friend:

And if you have five seconds to spare
Then I'll tell you the story of my life :
Sixteen, clumsy and shy

- Half a Person, The Smiths (for Sharon)

Lyrics to your anthem:

I want all that stupid old shit
Like letters and sodas

-Fuck and Run, Liz Phair

(I feel it necessary to explain, since this is one of my Favorite Songs, that what I self-identify with isn’t, at least not straightforwardly, the situation in the song (I seldom accidentally find myself sleeping with random strangers, and besides I don’t think there’s much I regret in my life, just generally), but the poignancy of the longing I think it captures.)

Lyrics that make you happy:

“Ba-ba-bada-ba-ba”goes the backing vocal
I’m trying not to be so antisocial
Truth be told I’m not entirely hopeful
I’ve woken up on one too many floors
but my favorite was yours

-There is a Boy That Never Goes Out, Lucksmiths

(The lyrics aren’t particularly clever and don’t mean much, the song isn’t complicatedly structured, and the whole thing lasts scarcely 2 minutes. But god I love it so.)

Lyrics that make you depressed:

Every thought that I repent,
There's another chip you haven't spent,
And you're cashing them all in,
Where do we begin. To get clean again,
Can we get clean again?

- God of Wine, Third Eye Blind

Lyrics that remind you of your family:

And if I was to sleep
I knew my family had more truth to tell
And so I traveled down a whispering well
To know myself through them

-After All, Dar Williams

Lyrics that remind you of a crush:

I'll be falling all about my own thing
And I know you're the heaviest weight,
When you're not here that's hung around my head

-I’ll Back You Up, Dave Matthews Band

Lyrics of how you feel now:

By the way, I got your letter yesterday
It said there’s no need to be sad
It said that some things would never ever change
But that some already had

- Maryland Bridge, The Weakerthans

Lyrics to a song that makes you want to sing:

I saw your arms in a dream
And there were blue veins blue
Blue veins

-Simple Things, Belle and Sebastian

Lyrics to a song that makes you want to dance:

Me gusta mi reggae
Me gusta punk rock
Pero la cosa que me gusta mas es panochita

-Caress Me Down, Sublime (this is for Natalie :P)

Lyrics to a song that inspires you:

And all these burning battlefields are now behind us
Life has brought us here together to remind us

- Sorry Signs on Cash Machines, Mason Jennings

(MASON JENNINGS IS AT THE BLACK CAT ON THE 11TH, FRIDAY. Dyanne and I intend to attend, and you should too unless you are dumb. :) )
