So I'm working today. I worked yesterday too at the same school.
And I'm bored already.
The problem with substituting is of course that I can't really *do* anything. If I were a full time library tech, I could be running statistics, or ordering books, or.. I don't know what else, but I'm sure there would be other things to be taking care of. On a day-at-a-time basis, a lot of those things -- all of those things -- don't apply to me.
So, I can check books in and out. I can shelf read. And I can sit here and read the newspaper online. Those are pretty much my options. Most interesting websites are blocked.
But, someone has to be be here to monitor the library, so here I am. Yesterday, honestly, I read a book for half of the day.
Because, the thing about shelf reading is: if I am shelf reading, I can't actually see the door of the library, nor can I see the desk. I don't like being in the position. So I have been doing it, don't get me wrong, but only for short periods of time, and then I come back to the desk. Also, the shelves in this library are remarkabley well-kept and don't require much reading in the first place.
I'm tired today. We are having a problem with Oscar in that he wants to come into the bedroom in the middle of the night. He expresses this by scratching at the door and waking us up -- usually at around four o'clock in the morning. We've been expirimenting with letting him in the room at that point, but I feel like that's rewarding him for bad behaviour. Leaving the door open all night, however, usually leads to cats on the desk, headboard, etc, making noice and jumping around. So usually at 4 a.m. I wake up, heave the laundry basket in front of the door, spray Oscar with a water bottle, and try to go back to sleep. It's not the most restful solution.
This is where my life is going, by the way: cats. Cats and soon dogs and they will be my surregate children that I will dote on and tell stories about, and I will be "that woman." Fair warning.
Other things:
There is a girl in this library with crazy 80s hair. I am talking about bleached, teased, huge 80s hair. I know the decade is making a comeback, but I find it hilarious every time I see it, nonetheless.
What other things did I used to write about in here? Did I lead a more interesting life, or just choose better anecdotes to share?
Oh, I got a new phone! But I just thought of that now, when I got home to cut and paste this to update. Well that will be for next time :)
cats,
