Today was my first fathers’ day as a father. I feel a pretty serious guilt about having dropped off of here as soon as Tadpole was born. I mean I kept up with this for almost a full year, and then when the really important stuff comes about I drop off completely!? I want to go back and share everything that has happened so far, and I feel like I have missed so much. There are milestones that she’s had and I’ve already forgotten about (sleep deprivation is real). But the best I can hope for right now is to get back to trying to write more regularly.
Tadpole is now 7 Months old, about double her birthweight. She was a pound short of double at her 6 month check in, but the medical assistant wrote down 3 pounds heavier than she weighed, which messed up all her medical dosing instructions and her growth chart/curve. This resulted in us pulling Tadpole from our family doctor, and following Molly’s doctor over to lantern health. We redid her 6 month check up and the doctor noticed, get this, that Tadpole had asymmetrical thigh creases (rolls), which led to Tadpole being diagnosed with congenital hip dysplasia. We have a visit with the orthopedist scheduled for Friday.
For Fathers’day Molly got Tadpole and I matching bows. I’ve wanted to match my bow ties to her hair bows since she was first born, but could t find (m)any matching sets, so Molly actually had a set commissioned! I love it, it makes me feel cute to match tadpole.
Tadpole is the most beautiful baby ever. I know I’m partial and probably prone to hyperbole, but I stand by my statement. She has a mostly sweet disposition, and is curious and cheerful. She does this thing where when she gets really excited she tries to hide her face, like the sheer joy of life is over stimulating or embarrassing, but then she always peaks back out to make sure everything is still there to be happy about.
For the first few months after the initial 6~ weeks, tadpole started sleeping through the nights with ease. But months ago when she started rolling over, she stopped sleeping all the way through the night, and started waking up twice every night. The first time to feed, and then the next time just to get attention. We figured out that the 5am wake up could be fixed by letting her snuggle up in bed with us for another hour or so of sleep. Those snuggles are sometimes the highlight of my day. She started mostly sleeping through the night again after we lowered her into her pack and play, once she started sitting up in the bassinet. She still wakes up 1-2 times, but now it’s mostly just for the morning snuggle.
In other news we just finished the first week of camp. It was a rough week, we’re at about half the staff I budgeted for, and not all of the team is all that great yet. However Friday was such a great day at camp that I am pretty jazzed about going back in tomorrow.
