Title: love like that only comes once in a life
Character: LUCAS AND PEYTON (OMG, guys, it's been so long.)
Summary: 50 sentences. (Follows the show's timeline.)
Disclaimer: Don't own.
A/N: I have not written these two in ages and eons, but I am loving them like crazay lately and felt like it. Originally I wanted to do these one sentence things so I could write more succinctly. Instead I ended up with really long sentences. Cool? Cool.
Also, I might do one of these for each of my ships, if I find the time or ambition.
Ring
Screeching tires ring in his ears and she stares at him like it's his fault she almost ran him over, and he still thinks she's the prettiest girl he's ever seen.
Hero
He parks the tow truck and Haley won't stop laughing, saying, "Yeah, you're her hero now," and Skills says, "She'll never stop thinking about you," and they all think it's hilarious, so he ignores them until they apologize.
Memory
Sometimes he wonders if that day was really as amazing as he thought it was, if somehow they understood one another as well as he was pretty quick to assume.
Box
He steals a sticker from under the front seat of her car and sets it in a shoebox in the back of his closet, so that's how that gets started.
Run
He barely sees her leave the room, she does it so quickly, and he closes his eyes tight and wonders how he screwed it up so badly, how he even let it happen.
Hurricane
There's a storm and a terrifying phone call, and he's driving her car and she's crying, so he holds her hand, and then the drive back to Tree Hill is a lot more quiet because he doesn't have any reassuring words for this situation.
Wings
An unkindness overhead, and he wonders if he'll ever be able to really get away from ravens and all they symbolize.
Cold
He doesn't exactly get the greeting he wanted from the two girls he hurt more than anyone, but he left them just a letter, one for the both of them to share, and he can see why that might piss them off.
Red
The two of them for the whole summer and they start it in her bedroom, and maybe it's the fact that it's mostly dark and it feels so good to just be hanging out with her again, but the walls don't seem quite as angry as they usually do.
Drink
They get drunk on a Tuesday and he doesn't ask where she got the bottle of Jack from, just lets her pour him too many shots because he kind of falls in love with the way she's laughing as she does it.
Midnight
"Just stay," she says, pulling back the sheets and tucking her legs beneath them, and he should probably just go home because he only lives 10 minutes away, but this seems, at the moment, to be the smartest thing to do.
Temptation
He deals with it basically every day, the intense feeling that they're really never going to be over, even if he's trying to be in love with Brooke and Peyton's trying not to be in love with anyone at all.
View
Finding Brooke in bed with someone who isn't him is basically the worst thing he's ever seen, and he knows he should be done with her, but then she's crying and telling him she wants him, and it's nice, being wanted, so he actually listens to Peyton, which comes more easily than anything else.
Music
She's lost another mom and all she gets from it is a room full of records, and he believes her when she tells him it's almost enough.
Silk
He ties his tie and prepares for the funeral, and he's thinking about Peyton more than he should be, because he hasn't seen her since she was pulled out of his arms and he was forced onto the ground, and he'd just really like to see for himself that she's alive right now.
Cover
He's tired of lying about his illness, but the truth doesn't feel any better, and when he talks to her about it, the only one who really gets it is Peyton, even if she's mad at him for being so stupid.
Promise
He insists he's in love with Brooke, that the kiss in the library meant nothing, and even he knows he's a liar.
Dream
Maybe he's still a bit of a mess over his breakup, but that doesn't matter right now because Peyton is crazy hot when she's taking her clothes off in his room, and the next thing he knows, he's awake and alone, and yeah, she always kind of was his dream girl.
Candle
She likes to sit in his room, mostly in the dark and listen to music he really doesn't like, but he never says anything about it, because as long as she's here, he can actively make sure nothing bad happens to her again.
Talent
He's kind of doing this writing thing, but it doesn't really start being good until he types out her name.
Journey
It took them long enough to get here, kissing in the middle of a sea of people, and part of him is thinking it took them long enough, while the other part thinking they've still got a whole lot of life left to make up for lost time.
Silence
His hand is on his chest and his heart is beating in his ears until it's not anymore.
Fire
His blood burns through his veins and he grabs her when he sees her, torn dress and blood on her perfect skin, and he says, "God, I was so scared," and all she does is nod and manage to tell him she loves him.
Strength
"You know, you're allowed to be afraid," he tells her quietly when she slips into his bed in the middle of the night, and he whispers, "I am," against her temple when she clings to him.
Mask
She holds his baby sister in her arms and doesn't even bother trying to hide the awe on his face as he thinks, someday.
Ice
She gets pissed at him three days into the summer when they're sitting at the River Court, and she fishes an ice cube out of his cup and throws it directly at his chest; they both end up laughing so hard they forget what they were fighting about in the first place.
Fall
The first two weeks of school are the hardest, because Peyton calls and tells him she's staying in L.A., and he's got to convince himself it's not the worst thing in the world for them to be in two completely different states with a whole country between them.
Forgotten
He doesn't forget to call her, he just gets too busy then he's sleeping, and his phone doesn't ring for two days, so he knows she's really not happy about it.
Dance
She sends him a song she swears he'll love and Jamie bops around the living room while it plays, so Lucas snaps a picture and sends it to her with I miss you too much written in the subject line.
Body
His hands curve over her sides and down to her hips as her fingers work at unbuttoning his shirt and she murmurs between kisses that six months is way too long to go without having him inside her, and he tells her he loves her right before he gives her what she wants.
Sacred
It's the ring his mom wore for a short period of time, and she says it best when she tells him, "It should be worn, not sitting in the back of some drawer."
Farewells
He kisses her forehead as she sleeps, waits until he's in the elevator before his eyes are stinging and he starts realizing he can't really breathe under the weight of walking away from her.
World
It takes her three more years to come back to Tree Hill, and the really fucked up thing is he's not at all as surprised as he looks when he sees her for the first time.
Formal
She's yelling at him in a fancy dress on the middle of the sidewalk, and he realizes way too quickly that she's totally right and he's totally screwed.
Fever
She still loves him, and it's been kind of obvious, but hearing her say it makes him feel like he's living a different life, and one kiss just isn't enough, no matter which version of himself is the one pulling her back in for more.
Laugh
He sees her across the yard, standing there with Chase, her head tipped back as she laughs, and the jealousy in the pit of his stomach is irrational and way too familiar.
Lies
He says the book has nothing to do with Peyton, but they both know all his work will always be tied to her, and maybe the rest of him will, too.
Forever
Two women in the same room and he thought he'd spend his life with either of them at one point or another, not be standing here like an idiot wanting to make amends with one and somehow tell the other not to change a single thing about herself.
Overwhelmed
He grabs the kid because he's a punk and he deserves it, and Lucas doesn't think twice - never has and never will - about standing up for his team.
Whisper
He knows what he's saying, even if he acts like he doesn't, just to save face because it's a total lie and he can't stand thinking how he'd feel if the roles were reversed and she was the one who'd said she hated him.
Wait
He's always hated airports.
Talk
She clings to him the entire flight and he doesn't mind in the slightest, and when she asks what made him change his mind, he answers, "You did," and she kisses him and it's like he was an idiot for thinking he was happy at all in those years he was without her.
Search
He knows all her spots, all the best places to touch her and kiss her to make her come undone, but he wants to take a little time, play it out and get to know her again, so he traces his fingertips over her skin, looking for a spot that'll make her let out that little noise that always made his knees weak.
Hope
Their first night in their house, she slides her hand over his chest and says, "I always wanted to share a house with you, you know that?" and he nods, because he thinks he should have known it all along.
Eclipse
Their happiness is eclipsed by tragedy, and he loves her all the more for standing by him through it all.
Beginning
It's early and a lot could happen, but all he can process is that he's going to be a father, and he kisses her stomach when he gets home and lets her call him out on being so emotional.
Highway
He doesn't know how many proposals the woman really needs, but he's just trying to get one right and driving out to their favourite old spot seems kind of perfect, if you ask him.
Unknown
Something's wrong, and waiting for the test results might kill him if Peyton doesn't do it first like she's threatening to do every time he paces at the foot of her hospital bed.
Lock
The three of them are home and healthy and Peyton has colour in her face and her body is healing, and she makes fun of him for locking the doors at 11:30 on a Thursday morning, but he reminds her, "You're my girls," and that's enough to make her stop laughing and kiss him.
Breathe
He listens to Sawyer sleeping through the baby monitor, his wife in his arms and his little girl down the hall, and when Peyton says, "Luke, you have to sleep," he doesn't say anything, but he wants to disagree and he doesn't close his eyes until her breathing evens out, too.
