Sunday morning came, with sunlight filtering through the closed blinds of the hotel suite, and Samus slept like a log for the first time in a long while. Weeks... months probably! In fact, she was probably going to end up sleeping in very late at this rate... Not that she really minded, in her current position...
She was completely clueless that she had rolled back onto her other side in the middle of the night and was cuddled against Snake's back almost possessively, legs entangled.
Either she was going to be incredibly angry, or incredibly embarrassed whenever one or the other woke up.
...probably a very fair amount of both.

"Eh...huh?"
Only because he instantly remembered the events of last night did he not immediately panic. He let himself relax again, and lay there for a bit longer, noting that his friend behind him was still asleep, and didn't want to wake her. And...uh...he supposed that he liked it.

"..."
It then occurred to her that her actions were... probably a little rude? Was he even really awake at all, or was he faking it? She felt so awkward she couldn't muster any words and just stared at the back of his head.
Reply
Damn...she's probably pretty uncomfortable. Maybe I should, uh, say something?
He took a sighing breath, and decided to dive in headfirst, turning around to face the flushed woman, and giving a small grin. Don't make it snarky, don't make it condescending, just a normal smile.
"Hi."
He could have kicked himself.
You couldn't think of something better to say, you idiot?
He just wasn't good at this kind of thing.

Her grin widened, "...something like that~?"
Reply
"Yeah, I'm not so good with uh...that."
What.
He was failing his inner self. Snake was quite aware.
"Um. Did you sleep well? I mean, yesterday was kind of hectic."
Reply
She sat up and stretched her arms over her head, coming out of it with a yawn, "...and yeeeaaaaah it was. Don't remind me." She scratched her back as if just by saying that out loud her body decided to catch up with the strenuous bus ride... even if she didn't receive any injuries on it, she felt a bit sore. Maybe I just slept on it wrong... She looked back at Snake with a small, sincere smile, "Did you sleep ok?"

He kept on sneaking glances at her, not wanting to look at her full on. The thing that struck him most about last night, other than the normal snarky banter turning softer was Samus' peck on the cheek.
"Um. Samus."
Reply
"...yeah?"

He slowly turned to her, grabbing her shoulders, although in a quite different way then how he was grabbing her wrists the night before.
He almost opened his mouth to say something, but then decided against it.
He leaned in and kissed her on the cheek.
"...Thank you for your words last night."

W... why am I fighting this?
She felt weak, and didn't like it. She felt cornered, and didn't like it. And god damn it, she just wasn't going to have him out do her--having her reduced to a blushing frozen popsicle with just a simple peak on the cheeks.
She would have grinned but she moved too quickly, and returned his thank you with a firm, aggressive kiss on his lips. "You're welcome."
Reply
He didn't let her get too far away from him after her somewhat affectionate (and somewhat threatening)gesture, and returned it.
Even if it was sick, somewhere in his mind it turned into a competition.

Nonono what are you doing...
She didn't listen, too caught up in taming Snake and tried pushing him back on the bed. She broke free of their kiss and pulled back to study him for a couple of seconds before grinning and deciding his earlobe should be her next target...

Snake's mind practically exploded from the extent that Samus responded. He released air from partially gritted teeth when she went for his earlobe, but after a minute realized that, at the risk of sounding like a chick, things may be moving a little too fast.
He wrapped his arms around her, moving her to the side, and holding her close, breathing into her neck.
"I think I want to lay here. I guess that means you win."
He smirked. They both knew it was a one up kind of thing.
Reply
"...I'm sorry." She laid there for a couple of minutes until she calmed down, finding she enjoyed it more just holding him instead of trying to compete all the time. Not that Samus would ever decline a challenge when presented... She, in fact, probably would have been very content to just lay there all morning like that, but that would be wasting a good opportunity, that they were here together at these hot springs for just this weekend ( ... )

You have nothing to be sorry about.
When Samus left the room, Snake buried his head in his hands. SHIT SHIT SHIT
I kissed her?! That was my plan? What happens now? You'll do something to mess it up, and she'll never speak to you again. She was the closest thing to a colleague you had in this place! What an idiot...
"Shit...I need to get something to drink."
He mumbled this, aware that Samus probably wouldn't hear him, and did what he does best-snuck out of the hotel room, not realizing that this would only anger her as he had feared.
