Jeff wasn't usually one for visiting the stadium. Normally he avoided it like the plague along with the weight room. Yet today, he could hear the neighs of horses and the sound of hooves upon the ground. Curiosity got the better of him so he decided to take a peek.

He watched Marth practice, more impressed by the prince's control over the horse than by the use of weapons. It had been a long time since Jeff had ridden a horse, but he recalled enjoying the experience nonetheless. Truly an activity for the upper class. Jeff did notice the second horse, but didn't want to interrupt Marth's training just yet.

Marth, more than often in Akaneia, had taken to his feet, rather than a steed. But in the four plus years he had gone, whether he was in the academy, or his homeland, his abilities had considerably improved. Of course, if they hadn't, he would have been the slightest bit concerned. But they hadn't. Consequently, he took only a few more moments of losing himself in his graceful actions before he turned his attention onto Jeff.

"You should have said something," he began kindly. "I would not have made you wait."

Shaking his head, Jeff slowly approached Marth. "I didn't want to break your concentration. Sorry for not announcing myself earlier."

"You're..." he paused, searching for the right words, "very skilled at this." Jeff motioned vaguely with his hands, but whether he meant the horses or the weapons or the set-up stadium as a whole, it was difficult to tell. "I presume this sort of training is common where you come from." Marth was nobility, after all.

"It imperative that I am capable of handling all varieties of situations, including those which may every now and then break my concentration," he replied with a smile.

Marth sheathed his sword and brought his horse closer to Jeff before pausing beside the blond. "Where I come from, we cannot be too prepared for what we may face in the future. My home was wrecked by war more than once. Although I am away from it, my people could only benefit more from my training. It is mostly for their sake, and the occasional times here."

By which he meant the most recent murder. They couldn't be too safe, after all.

"A very dutiful reason," Jeff smiled. "You're such a concerned and responsible adult. Your people are lucky."

Slowly, Jeff raised his hand and started petting the horse. A voice in the back of his mind reminded him that he probably should've asked Marth first. But said voice was quickly ignored as he gently stroked the elegant animal.

"Being prepared for any situation is always a good plan. Though there may not be as many wars here, you never know what kind of crazy thing will happen next."

Marth had heard this many times. His people were lucky. A part of him wondered about that, however. How lucky were his people that he had chosen to pursue a woman who would not give him her heart? How lucky were they to have a man so controlled by his emotions that he was willing to plunge himself into a world of darkness to be with her? He'd put a woman above his people. But to be fair and to counter all of that, Marth had spent over a decade living for other people than himself. He'd spent all of that time doing things for the benefit of others and forgetting himself as a result ( ... )

"You mean the dead body that Gold found," Jeff assumed. The blond wasn't too sure what to think about it. He wanted to agree with other people in that murders weren't exactly uncommon, especially near such a large city like FDC. Yet his inner detective fan-boy couldn't help but get excited upon hearing the news. It was like something straight out of one of his detective novels.

"I suppose it is cause for concern. Though the reaction from people here was a bit... naive, I suppose. True, I'm sure plenty of them have never seen a dead body before, but it'd be foolish of them to think such things never happened. Maybe not so close to the school grounds, but still."

That was precisely what Marth meant and he was relieved Jeff picked up on it. Although to be fair, it was not as though Marth had particularly tried to hide it for any reason. There was no need to be sly or clever when it came to death and Her embrace. For as far as he was concerned, the Everlasting was quite enough crafty on her own.

"I do not think," he began thoughtfully, "that it is not that they do not expect it to ever happen, but rather that it should not happen here. Perhaps you have been here far more than I, but I can admit that in my time here while back and forth periodically, I have not personally witnessed such happenings. I am accustomed to it in my own right, but it is a bit shocking."

But then he offered the slightest shrug of the shoulders, not dismissive by any means, but rather that it was difficult to play the Devil's advocate. "Interpretation is everything. We have many younger ones here. It would not surprise me in the least that they should be the slightest concerned."
