Phoenix was casually taking a walk around campus when all of a sudden, he thought he stepped into a Renaissance fair. Yes, there was a very effeminate knight, dressed to the nines, riding atop a white horse with his sword in hand. Either this was some sick dream or it was a Renaissance fair.

Or.. it was just this school with all of its weird people and talking animals and whatnot. By now, Phoenix should have just known to expect a man convinced he was from the medieval era riding on his well-groomed horse. Still, he couldn't help but stare oddly. That was a beautiful horse, though, Phoenix had to admit.

He didn't want to disturb the man, so he stood by and watched as the knight tackled his obstacles.

It was a Renaissance fair.

Marth probably could have gotten far too easily distracted with his training. It wasn't even as though to do such a thing in his free time was unheard of. He simply often did so away from the eyes from the others. It was his first time using the stadium, which he mainly did for the sake of the Hands and what they chose to offer. If he set it up accordingly, he could put any number of obstacles he'd wanted to and eventually he'd get to that point.

Perhaps a bit later.

His attention mid-turn of his blade turned onto Phoenix. He knew who the man was. Even knew him by name. But Marth wasn't a student of political science any longer. He had been once upon a time and it hadn't lasted long when he found out what kind of person Robotnik was. His posture straightened and he lifted his eyebrows at Phoenix.

"What brings the professor out this way?" Marth asked, curiosity tinting his tone.

Phoenix had been mesmerized watching the knight gallantly ride across the field, swiftly maneuvering through the obstacles like a professional. He wasn't sure exactly why this man had to train for what looked like a jousting tournament, but it was still interesting. He had magnificent skill, and he looked so natural upon that beautiful horse.

So, when the man began speaking, it took Phoenix by surprise.

"Oh!" Phoenix responded, "I... Was just taking a walk when I saw you here."

He wanted to investigate the stadium, truthfully. He had heard interesting things about it, almost making it sound like one of those science fiction "Holodeck" types of things.

Marth smiled a bit sheepishly. He supposed he did look a little out of sorts. Many people came to the academy and didn't expect to find a prince who was so very rigid about how he carried himself. Marth had very little intentions of ever hiding his nobility. He saw no reason to. He still didn't, even in the face of Phoenix's vaguely bemused expression. Or what Marth interpreted as bemusement.

"I see." He gestured over to the other horse, free and available for the taking. "I do not suppose you have half a mind to join me?" And his offer was a kind one, no malice behind it whatsoever. But then, the emperor had very little reason to put venom in his voice. After all, he was simply brushing up on his skills.

Phoenix didn't actually expect an offer to join. He was more content with just watching, really.

"Oh... I mean, I'd like to but... I don't actually know how to ride a horse. Or use a weapon," he sheepishly admitted. How come everyone in this school knew how to fight? Phoenix was just an ex-attorney political science teacher. He didn't think that required knowledge of combat. Though with all the murder cases and horrible situations he's been in, he probably should have knowledge of a weapon.

If Marth had been anyone else, he might have laughed. But he was actually a bit envious of Phoenix. A man who did not know the horrors of war was inevitably much more understanding and not quite as jaded. Marth was years older than he would have liked to consider himself and he was determined that war was to be held responsible for just such an incident.

"Aha," the emperor began kindly. "Then I extend my next offer. Should you like to learn? To ride a horse, I mean. So few are privileged to wander life without the need for weapons. I would not wish to corrupt you in such a form, Professor."

Phoenix had been watching the knight and his horse with some awe, admiring how beautiful the whole scene looked. It was right out of a fairy tale, honestly. He thought Maya would get a kick out of it.

"Oh, I mean... uh..." Phoenix was a bit embarrassed now. He figured he'd probably look like a complete idiot atop a horse next to this guy. Besides, he didn't even know the man, although he got a decent vibe from him, one similar to the innocent clients he had defended in the past.

"I... guess you could teach me," he finally said, "But really, I'll probably look silly."

Marth gestured once more to the free horse he'd had set aside for those who potentially wished to join him. "We all look silly doing things we are not familiar with. I have no reason to judge you, and no one else does either."

He smiled reassuringly and sheathed his sword to offer Phoenix a hand. "Forgive me for my rudeness. My name is Marth."

Marth certainly looked the part of the knight, and he acted like one too, with his chivalrous nature. He believed the words the man spoke about not judging him, so he decided okay, why not. What did he have to lose? Nothing, really.

"All right," he said, giving a small smile, "Thanks then."

He shook Marth's hand when he offered it, and Phoenix responded, "Ah, no, forgive me for barging in on your training. I'm Phoenix Wright."

He shook his head kindly and helped himself down from his horse. A hand at his hip, he gestured with the other. "Ah, Professor Wright it is then." The hand shifted, so he might cross it before him and offer a respectful bow. "It is much a privilege. How are you enjoying your classes here thus far?"

For certainly it wasn't easy or at all simple to teach a class of mostly unruly students. Not that Marth was unruly, of course. But he couldn't say the same for his peers. Unfortunately.

"Oh, yes, I guess you could call me Professor Wright, but I'm not really a 'professor...' You can just call me Mr. Wright." He would have told Marth to just call him "Phoenix" or "Nick," but this guy was a student, wasn't he? That would break the rules of etiquette to have a student call him by his first name.

Didn't one have to have a doctorate to be a professor? Phoenix certainly didn't have a doctorate, though he supposed he could add Esquire to his name, being a lawyer and all... Oh wait, he wasn't a lawyer anymore.

"Oh, my classes are okay so far," he said. No troubles yet. The students were mostly attentive, though he didn't want to mention Dr. Robotnik and his hatred of the poor ex-lawyer.

"What about you?" he asked, "Are you enjoying your classes?"

"Mr. Wright, then," Marth corrected himself with a confident smile.

Ah, yes. Marth had met more than his share of people who shared society's position with him, some above, and some below. But once he'd become Akaneia's emperor, he supposed there was really no one above him, save the Everlasting and God -- the Gods. Whichever. Being in company like Phoenix's, however, and others humbled him. He had never once brought up his position from where he came. Because in the academy, it really made no difference. They were all simply people.

Even if Marth did enjoy referring to Zelda as 'princess' and other such things.

"I enjoy my tutelage most when my instructors are not expending too much effort," he replied earnestly.

"Ahahaha... well," Phoenix began, "I mean, a good teacher puts in a lot of effort to make sure the students learn, doesn't he?"

Phoenix of course had had his share of good instructors and bad, and he remembered the one that stuck out the most to him: his fourth grade teacher. She was a nice woman, but if she had been doing her job correctly, she would have realized that there was no proof that Phoenix had taken another student's money. Thank goodness Edgeworth had stepped in and saved him.

And now there was an alleged murder on this campus. Phoenix wasn't scared, due to him being around a lot worse in the past, but he was concerned. What if the wrong person as accused? Perhaps it's a good thing he came to this school, then, so he could make sure the truth and only the truth was brought to justice ( ... )

"Yes, but some of the students here are not so kind as to consider the positions of our instructors. Being a tutor is not easy in any regards," Marth pointed out as he tipped his head thoughtfully. "Not everyone is humble enough to acknowledge their practicality or to show their appreciation for the undoubtedly long hours you will be putting into curriculum, grading papers, observing student behaviour, and molding the minds of the young in hopes of making them well-rounded individuals."

He wasn't a teacher by any means and he'd often questioned his ability to teach anything at the academy, though he supposed with the upcoming end of the school year, he would probably take to some form of instructing. Perhaps they could use a fencing class. Or a fencing club at the very least. Or perhaps a class on oral diction and the other related things. They had plenty of aspiring leaders and if there was thing Marth could do and do well it was lead ( ... )

Phoenix assumed that Marth was a tutor and had had some very difficult students by the way he spoke. Of course not all students were going to be easy. Every class would have some asshole who would disrupt everything. However, Phoenix didn't realize that Smash Academy probably had a lot of those disruptive students.

"Oh... Yes, there are a lot of people, unfortunately, who can't appreciate the good that others can bring," Phoenix agreed. He thought of his position as a defense attorney, being practically spat on by other members of the legal system, hardly being appreciated for all the work he put in. However, it was all worth it to see an innocent person go free and the guilty be brought to justice. But his lack of others' appreciation is what finally got him disbarred, and he was obviously quite bitter.

"Oh, my class? I'm teaching political science." His disposition brightened slightly upon speaking of his class, as he began forgetting again about his disbarment.

"Political science," Marth repeated with some interest in his tone. "Ah, yes. I heard you replaced the former instructor, who many of the students took issue with. Inevitably from just these moments alone, it would come as no grand surprise that you would be a vast improvement."

Marth hadn't really liked Eggman much either, but he didn't exactly know the guy. Honestly, if he had to choose between Eggman and Ganondorf, however, he probably would have taken Eggman. And that just went to show how much he didn't know Eggman at all. In hindsight, he'd probably come to discover that he really disliked Eggman's companionship.

"Perhaps I will have to stop in and watch for a little. Watch and listen, anyway." Assuming Phoenix was confident of his abilities as an instructor. Marth hadn't been able to tell just yet how that was. From a first impression, however, Phoenix seemed a little too easy to rile up, though.
