Rhys was on one of his frequent walks around campus, taking in the world. He made a stop in to the stadium, to check up on who might be training. My what rippling muscles that man has.

From his place in the stands, he saw a lone man on horseback practicing flow and attacks through a messy field. Moving closer to the stage, he called out. "A bit of a static battle, is it not?"

Marth's attention turned onto Rhys. And he realised he saw the most beautiful creature he'd ever seen before. He hadn't seen him before and if there was one thing the emperor needed, it was to fill the roster of people he was acquainted with to the very brim, as though he were tipping a chalice off.

He forced his steed to turn and controlled the movements of the magnificent animal with the heels of his boots. As he grew closer to Rhys, he maintained a tight grasp on the hilt of his sword. "A static battle? Not in the least," he began. "One should be able to imagine the movements of the enemy. However, perhaps you would like to join me, good sir."

"Why imagine," He laughed, moving towards the north side of the arena. "When you can have the heat of battle around you?" He took position above the arena, at the edge of the seats. "The mind is good for many things, the spirit for more. But aren't there some things the body needs to experience to understand?"

"I never claimed my plan would be flawless. At times, we cannot all have what we would like. Consequently, we must make do, sometimes, with what we have. To require too much would bring us steps back, rather than make progress."

He watched Rhys carefully, unsure of whether he should classify him as friend or foe. There were few in the academy Marth had truly disliked and if first impressions spoke anything, he heard wisdom in Rhys' voice. "You sound as though you have a recommendation, or perhaps that you wish to participate. In other words, to create this 'heat of battle' as you have put it."

"Quite attentive. I do indeed have an idea for you." He waved out at the battlefield before them. "Why not a true test of your riding skills. I have certain abilities that could create quite the commotion upon the field, sure to spook any average horse and rider." He smiled jovially.

"However, you seem to be more than average. Do you think you could hit your targets through a cannon barrage?"

Marth had a hard time not being the slightest bit amused by how Rhys worded things. Of course, it was intriguing to have someone who was interested in providing him with a challenge. No one had done that. Not in the four plus years that he had traveled back and forth between the academy and Akaneia. There was, of course, the war with Mediuth, but he hardly counted that. That had all been far more like an obligation than a 'challenge'.

He smiled, perhaps a little too confidently, and tightened the grasp upon the hilt of his sword. "A cannon barrage?" he asked curiously. "I would not be against the attempt. I will show you precise how above average I am." And that was definitely some confidence, but certainly Marth had the impressive lineage to back up his words.

"Ready your horse on the other side of the arena," Rhys leaped over the rails and into the field. "I'll need only a moment to load."

He closes his eyes, and hunched his shoulders slightly, gathering the strength to transform.

Ever see a Pokemon transformation, Marth?

A moment to load? Marth was clueless. So clueless that he really didn't quite understand humans and Pokémon or the latter and their different forms. He was, undoubtedly, human and certainly looked like one. But Pokémon were different and a bit special from what he'd understood. He still didn't quite understand the whole situation and he certainly had not seen one transform before.

So he simply watched and stared in awe, which might have seemed uncharacteristic of him momentarily. After all, the emperor had only often ever portrayed himself with the most collected composure. But evidently it seemed there were still some things capable of surprising him.

Rhys nodded a grunt towards Marth and his mount. Surprise was expected, he makes no effort to push the effect.

"Pyr." Unfortunately, communication was limited in this form. His order of 'Go' meaning nothing to human ears. Without waiting for a response, he begins scooping the ground beneath them into the palms of his hand.

'Pyr'.

Of all the things for him to say, 'pyr' was the only one he was capable of. Marth wasn't even sure of what to think. But when he saw what Rhys was doing, he thought he had an idea. His right hand tightened the grasp upon the hilt of the Falchion and he turned in the heels of his boots against the sides of his steed.

The horse moved easily at his command and the pace was a casual one, at least until he knew what he had to dodge and what he could use his sword to either slice through or deflect. He had the strange idea, however, that anything Rhys hurled was going to be too large to do the latter with. He would have to do his best with the dodging.

How much do you have in the way of heavy artillery back home? Because you're about to get a whole load of it.

Rhys takes aim, lifting one heavy arm up to the air, clearly showing off the large hole in the center. "Pyrrrrior!" First, a warning shot. A head-sized ball of dirt and stone hurtles through the air, the trajectory too far to the right to be of any harm. A cloud of dust erupts from the ground as it crashes down. With what could easily be described as a toothy grin, he aims again, a little closer this time.
