It was embarrassing to admit, but little Marie was developing a little crush on a little spider. He hadn't told his team yet, especially after learning that Sasha and Vinnie were friends with Spinny. He couldn't ask them for advice, considering he had only recently offered his own expert advice to Red, in regards to Misty. Instead, he was attempting to ignore the bitty inkling of a crush.
Marie hadn't heard the boring elevator music over his own. But something had caught his attention. A cutesy sign on the dorm's door, advertising romance advice. Now, clearly this Misty couldn't be the same Misty he was thinking of. So the Squirtle pulled out his headphones and peaked inside.
Dear Arceus, it was Misty. Marie kind of just stood there like a bidoof for a few moments, unsure of what to do...

Misty perked up once she saw the door slowly cracked open. Oh, a customer! Or, well, a possible customer. She was quick to shout to Neris, "Neris! Someone's here!" She was obviously excited to get down to work, and to think a customer got here so soon! That was a good sign.
She rushed over to the door and pulled it open a little more to see who it was. She was extra pleased to see that it was Marie of all people. One of Red's Pokemon AND a Squirtle? Misty had to love him.
"Marie! Hi there! Did you come for any help today?"
"Oh, uh! No, I was just passing by," Marie immediately replied. There was no way Marie was going to tell Misty who he was crushing on. That was definitely too awkward for words. ...But Misty's expression is what kept him from bolting out of the room. She seemed so excited to see him.
"I didn't know you were a love guru," he asked, looking away from Misty.
"Oh! Really? Then I guess you were just curious?" Misty laughed. Darn, and here she thought he was going to be one of their 'customers'. She was so itching to get down to business and everything!
"Well, I've always been into romance and love, so... I thought trying to help people would be a great idea! Not to mention that Neris is really good at this stuff, too!" She looked over to the mermaid in question.
Marie gave the mermaid a passing glance, but focused most of his attention on the totally interesting wall behind the two love gurus. He was listening to everything Misty was saying, but he might have looked like he was zoning out... Once she was finished, though, he replied.
"So, what do you do exactly? Like, you tell people how to tell their crush that they like them ... or is it more like couple's therapy? Or whatever..." he asked, shyly fidgeting as he spoke.
"It can be anything! Resolving couples' issues, what places are good for dates, how to tell crushes that you like them, what a good gift is for your crush... anything!" Misty clapped her hands together. "It just has to be about romance for it to count!"
As Misty clasped her hands, Marie fidgeted with his hands; forming fists, then stretching out his fingers and causing his knuckles to quietly pop.
"Huh. Have you guys gotten any ... customers ... yet?" he asked, starting to mumble a little. He was likely coming off a little awkward, but that wasn't unusual behavior for the Squirtle.
"Like I said, it's not me. But I know someone who has a crush on a girl. But he pretty much just met her. And he has a hard time reading her emotions," Marie started rambling, mumbling here and there. He also began fidgeting again.
"Do you think he should tell her that he likes her, or should he get to know her better first..." he added, giving Misty a worried glance.
Misty gave a soft hum and thought for a moment. He just met her and has a hard time understanding her? Whoever the guy was, this would only spell out trouble for him. The emotions thing could prove to be a huge barrier.
"I think the best idea would be to wait! If he has a hard time knowing her emotions, he could always say the wrong thing, do the wrong thing, and hurt her when he doesn't mean to hurt her. He'd have to be careful!"
Marie thought about this for a moment. The best idea would be to wait... But wait for what, exactly? Wait for Spinarak to suddenly start expressing her emotions in a way that actually made sense to Marie? That may never happen. In fact, it probably never would.
"But the reason he has a hard time he has a hard time reading her is because she doesn't... show them," he tried to explain, frowning. "Maybe he's just thinking too hard about this and should probably forget about it..."
Hm. Misty thought for a moment again, unsure of how to respond to that. So she doesn't show them? That's... kind of strange. So she seems blank? Seems being the keyword. Everyone has emotions in some way or another.
Misty nodded. "That makes it a lot harder, huh? Well, maybe he should find out what she likes? Maybe he can see what happens if he does more things for her that she likes. That might help!"
[oops, disregard my repeated "he has a hard time" up there.]punchtheoceanJanuary 13 2011, 18:57:58 UTC
Marie listened intently, actually bothering to look at Misty as she spoke. He nodded along and started to calm down a little. Talking to Misty actually wasn't so bad; as long as he pretended he wasn't talking about himself, anyway.
"That makes sense. She seems pretty open about what she does and doesn't like. Just not through the expressions on her face," he explained. Clearly his speech was very mysterious and no one could figure out he was talking about his own crush. Clearly.
[pfff it's okay I didn't even notice |D;;]haswetpokemonJanuary 13 2011, 22:52:24 UTC
Very, very clearly. Hmmm. Marie seems to be talking as if she knows this girl and has observed her. Misty was beginning to wonder about his story, but she wasn't going to open her mouth. That might make the situation turn sour in an instant.
"That's great! As long as he can figure it out, it could work out from there. If you want to share, do you know what she likes? I mean, to help your friend. That might help with ideas. I could help with that!" She paused, tapping her fingers on her knees. "Oh, but if you don't know or don't want to tell me, that's okay, too."

"Well, actually, you're our first customer! I mean, well, not customer... so I guess our first visitor?" That made a little more sense.

"Hey, maybe I could ask you something," he offered, wincing. "I mean. Not related to me. To ... a friend."
Smooth.
