Who: Cyrus, Voile, and his class.
What: Ethics class! First one of the new term!
Where: Classroom
When: 1 pm
Warnings: People will likely hate on some pretty interesting stuff.
Cyrus started to pace, considering his words. He had written an outline, but as always, there were always changes when he spoke them. "I understand that many of you are new, not only to this class but to the topic of ethics as a whole," he began, staring out over the rows of students.
"'How are ethics defined?', you may wonder. What are they?" He stopped in front of the middle of his desk. Presentation was everything, and symmetry was a powerful image.
"To be truly ethical," he continued, "you must pull back. Examine the big picture. Consider the world as a whole--how do your views impact it? What do you believe? What is important to you?"
As he spoke, a flash of his hallucination returned. He fought it back with a long intake of breath. His speech was just getting good and he wasn't about to let visions of that void deter him.
"What, if anything, can truly change the world? What has plagued it for so long? This world is cursed with inequity, with hatred, with ignorance, with passion and folly. We cannot be rid of them until we target their sources." Yes, that would do it. That would surely engage them.
"I will teach you how to view things rationally. To think free from those influences." Who would want to possess them? He smiled as kindly as he would permit himself.
Now the meat of his speech. To take things so slowly was distasteful to him, but it would have to be done if he was to affect a change in this place. "Today we will discuss hatred. All of you contain within you hatred for something. You will explain that hatred to me as plainly as you can, and we will discuss the excuses behind that sickening emotion."
Cyrus turned his attention to the class. Voile had been instructed to point out anyone holding back, but he was certain at least a few would be willing and able to get the ball rolling.
