Shadow stared at the newcomers, and found that he didn't really have much to say to either, despite the threat from Charmeleon. It wasn't his beer-- he'd let Falcon decide what he wanted to do with it.

Responding to Falco's comment, he said, "Well, that guy's got some... pretty interesting skills, you could say. He gave me a hand figuring out some stuff about my past... it looks like the source is pretty solid... and... that's the problem." Shadow hung his head, feeling the confusion of earlier that day returning to him. "It just doesn't make any sense."

He raised his eyes grimly at Falco again. "Supposedly, I'm some kind of creation-- some kind of genetics experiment. Supposedly, I wasn't born at all, I haven't even been alive longer than a handful of years." He thought back to the tag that had been liberally attached to much of the data in the memory card: The Ultimate Lifeform.

"But can this really be true? How the fuck am I supposed to accept something like this?" Shadow knuckled his brow and tried to keep thinking straight, but it was getting harder. "How could anyone...?"

Falco looked Shadow over, sharp cerulean eyes taking in every detail. Shadow was right-although he didn't exactly look like someone who could be labeled as normal (at least in his opinion, anyway), he didn't look like something that would've been created at a lab. He shook his head and took another swig.

"That is just crazy," he said, unable to think of any reaction more appropriate than that. He tried to finish the question, unsure of what Shadow meant. "'Be created,' or what...?"

"How could anyone accept this as their own meaning?" Shadow struggled to make his problem understood. "Everyone has their own life to live... their own path to travel. Everyone has a real future, and a real past. But what about me? If I'm supposed to be... some kind of weapon... then what am I supposed to think of myself? DO with myself?"

It was almost too much to think about. But there was one thing that kept Shadow going at that moment: the fact that we was still capable of telling all this to someone.

"Man, I'm sorry, it's kind of a bizarre situation, didn't mean to give you that much of something to pick at..." Shadow stood slightly shakily and gestured at the remaining beers. "Mind if I have another?"

Okay, that was a bit much for his mind to handle-most of his braincells had been knocked out due to head trauma from Resetti and Powalski-but still, it would've been difficult for anyone to process. Falco calmly sipped his beer before stringing his words together.

"Well... why not just make yer own path? Obviously, ya got your own will," he pointed at Shadow again. "Don't let anyone tie ya down. Make your own future and fuck everything else. Do what makes you happiest."

His own heart rate began quickening; it was like what he had done to Fox a few weeks ago when he chose Leon over him. Even if it had hurt his friendship with Fox, he had been miserable the week of the break up, and now he was the happiest he had ever been in his life.

"S'okay," Falco said, then passed the hedgehog a beer. "Here."

Shadow took the beer and nodded appreciatively. "You... you might be right. Even if it is true, it's all in the past-- I've got a life now... whatever that's worth. I can do whatever I want." He pried open his second can and started drinking liberally from it. "I just... I just wish there wasn't... so much to know about myself."

Shadow paused for a second, then tried rewording his previous statement. "Like... there's all this stuff I'm supposed to know... all this stuff that makes up who I was... does any of that... should it mean something? Should I let it?" He shook his head, and took another long drink. "I don't even know anymore.

"Look, I'm gonna... go sit on the roof, just for a few minutes... s'getting hot in here. Thanks for the beers man, you're a pretty cool guy who doesn't afraid of anything." He waved his beer, once more, in the general direction of the other students that had been drinking with them, and said, "I'll see you guys around, or something." And with a slightly uneven step, Shadow made his way (with a little effort) out of the commons.
