Psychology #...something. Blacky is petty.

Mar 23, 2010 20:03

Who: Blacky and the Psych students and whoever else wants to show up.
When: The evening of the 22nd.
What: A thinly veiled excuse for Snap to study and RP at the same time. PSYCH FINAL.

When it came to thinking about her job, Blacky was feeling more than a little tense as of late. It was that Uxie character. Coming here and teaching a higher level of psychology, and implying he thought she wasn't a good enough teacher to prepare the general psych students for the next step?! He had some nerve! Not everyone could be a legendary Pokemon with all the knowledge of the universe for the past few thousand years. Or whatever the hype over this tiny fairie creature was supposed to be about.

Still, she felt her position was in jeopardy; after losing control of the theatre department to Flurrie (although that was her own damn fault for being the wrong kind of drama queen), this was all she had left and she was going to prove she was capable, damn it!

And so the following exam was laid out on every desk:

True/False:

1. The width of the axon affects the speed of action potentials.
2. Excitatory postynaptic potentials make action potentials less likely to occur.
3. Neurotransmitters are paired - a neurotransmitter is useless unless there’s a receptor programmed to respond to it.
4. Psychoactive drugs work as either antagonists or protagonists.
5. The long-term memory ejects old, unused information to make room for new knowledge.
6. Time is not a causal factor in forgetting.

Multiple Choice

1. Action potentials occur at the _____ of Ranvier.
a. Clefts
b. Nodes
c. Synapses
d. None of the above; they occur at the myelinated parts of the axon.

2. According to primacy and recency effects, if you were presented with the number 195402, which digits would be hardest to recall later on?
a. 19
b. 54
c. 02
d. They would be equally difficult to remember
e. 1 and 2

3. When asked to retrieve info from the short-term memory, the scanning process is:
a. Parallel and exhaustive - Multiple items will be scanned at once, but the scan continues until STM is exhausted -- even after desired information is found.
b. Parallel and self-terminating - Multiple items are scanned at once, and search terminated after desired information is found.
c. Serial and self-terminating - Items are scanned one-bye-one; scanning ceases once desired information is found.
d. Serial and exhaustive - It goes through items one-by-one from start to finish, even after the desired information is found.

4. Episodic memory is likeliest to house which bit of information?
a. How to ride a bike
b. The day your dad took the training wheels off your bike
c. The average number of cyclists that visit the Celadon-Fuchsia cycling road each week
d. Both a and b

5. Collins & Quillian (1969) made the first serious attempt at creating a model for the semantic memory. According to their spreading activation model, what are the different kinds of pathways between nodes?
a. Anecdotal statements and Factual statements
b. "Isa" pathways and "P" pathways
c. Semantic pathways and Iconic pathways
d. Property statements and Propositions
e. Both a and c
f. Both b and d

6. Dopamine has a role in:
a. Pleasure and reward
b. Normal motor behaviour
c. Addiction
d. All of the above
e. None of the above

7. Stress is related to neuron death in:
a. the hippocampus
b. the amygdala
c. the tegmentum
d. Stress has no effect on neuron death.

8. Alzheimer's disease is most likely to be related to a problem with which neurotransmitter system?
a. Noradreniergic
b. Serotonergic
c. Cholinergic
d. Mesolimbic Dopaminergic

Short Answer

1. State four methods in which neurotransmitters are deactivated.
2. Compare Type I and Type II synapses.
3. List and describe three types of neurotransmitters.
4. Is it okay to drink alcohol while on antidepressants? Why or why not? Make sure to include monoamine oxidase inhibitors in your response.

[You in no way have to actually fill out this test UNLESS YOU ARE SNAP. You could just say your super-nerd character just happened to study this and does well, or just the opposite, or something or another. ENJOY.]
