Did he really want to have that conversation with her? Did he... really want to cross over into that grey area? It wasn't like Nabooru had never thought about it. She'd considered it a good number of times, tried to imagine what the conversation would be like, and had never been able to create an appropriate picture or hypothesis of the predicament. She'd never been able to really imagine herself being free with how she felt about the man. She didn't know if he wanted that. She didn't know what he wanted in general.
She'd always thought she was obvious. Maybe he saw them as being two different things, however. Her dedication and commitment to him could have easily been contrived as a second-in-command to her leader. There was absolutely nothing that ever pointed in the direction that maybe all of that was more than just subservience to a higher power. He had every right in the name of the goddesses to make his foolish assumptions.
Still, he wanted to talk about it with her. Nerves crept up on her and all of that natural confidence began to melt. The façade was breaking.
After waiting for a few moments and pacing back and forth in front of his door, she finally forced herself to knock. She'd never know if she didn't take that one step. Who knew? Maybe it wouldn't be so terrifying, after all.
