The Aparoids...were dying.
Using their memories against them wasn't working.
Using their old foes against them wasn't working.
Using creatures from other places they had vanquished wasn't working.
Using creatures mixed from their memories wasn't working.
Sending in their strongest soldiers wasn't working.
The dome was nearly in pieces. Reinforcements might arrive soon.
Their numbers were dwindling.
There...wasn't much choice.
Friday morning it was quiet. Desolate. There was nothing. No sound. No Aparoids. Nothing.
As the sun had started to settled whispers underground had begun to ring out everywhere.
Had they finally won?
Where was the Aparoid queen?
Had they retreated?
Was the war over?
Unfortunately it wasn't. It had been ended too abruptly, Master Hand knew that. He had called everyone back to stand in the school while they discussed a battle plan.
7pm. The lights went out.
Everywhere.
Final Destination and Smash Academy were in pitch darkness, if for a few minutes. The backup motors got back up in the underground, of course but in the city...nothing.
The Aparoids began their final attack.
Against the school itself.
And before them, a single frightening voice...fear...pain...
“I hunger.”
Then sounds and roars of creatures slamming themselves against the school could be heard. It was strong, but not invincible.
The walls shook.
...They'd have to go and attack them soon.
