Went to NYC today.... BY MYSELF!... yeah!... I mean it'd be a little more epic if I hadn't stuck around Times Square like a chicken but eh XD
So I went for job prospects of which there are A TON because I think places are probably hiring in anticipation for summer... So lots of applications to fill out. *crosses fingers* But anyways the real highlight is that I was totally irresponsible and checked the tkts booth and saw that nearly every show was 40-50% off today... so OF COURSE I got in line. Now I didn't know Robert Sean Leonard was on stage but I saw that he was and I was like OMG.... so I couldn't decide on that or Mamma Mia. Well one of the guys working the line randomly asked me what I was seeing and I told him I couldn't decide between Born Yesterday (Robert's play) or Mamma Mia. He said he'd just seen Born Yesterday and that it was hilarious and really good and Nina Arianda (main girl) would get the Tony for it. He said she was a true character actress which was hard to find these days. And he said Mamma Mia was overrated. I told him I wanted to see it because of the movie anyway and he said it really wasn't worth it. Don't know how right he is but SOOOO glad he recommended the play. I got seats in the orchestra section 10 rows from the stage AND in the middle! $62... normally the CHEAP seats are that much! So anyways I wandered around looking for jobs and went to the play at 2. I HIGHLY recommend it. The set is unbelievably gorgeous... like the audience gasped when it was revealed. And Nina outshined EVERYONE... her comedic timing was perfect... she changed her voice DRASTICALLY... And it was fun to watch her character change and grow. RSL was especially good when he suddenly had to burst out in anger and rave about the government. I didn't actually form an opinion on Jim Belushi... well until after. So the play got out and we went to stage door but they were doing some theater talk thing? idk... so someone came out and told us... but then Nina came out a few minutes later and she was SUPER sweet... but it is her Broadway debut so she kinda had to come out and she kinda had to be sweet cuz you can't get far without fans... I got the feeling that she was genuine though. But people were crap to her... all they could do was ask when Jim and RSL were coming out and one woman even backed away when she was signing autographs. Like woman, I'd like to see YOU try and get up on that stage. So I got a pic with her and then we waited... and waited... and finally like half an hour later, a woman randomly comes out and says "Jim is taking a nap." Uh... WTF? Really? Riiiiiight. And she said she didn't know what RSL was doing. So nearly everyone left and there were like 10 of us. And after 15 more minutes, I left and there were still 4 people there. I was deeply deeply disappointed in RSL. Being a no show is one thing... some people just don't like to face the crazy fans... but not being polite enough to send someone out to say so? Letting fans wait 45 minutes? I missed my friggin train! Grr. RSL, I adored you, dude. But that was just made of fail. Whatevs... at least I met Nina and got a pick and I'd definitely see her in something else if I ever got the chance.
