Title: A Butchy Christmas Carol (Final Part)
Fandom: SVU
Pairing: Alex/Olivia
Rating: PG
Summary: Olivia has lost the meaning of Christmas... and lesbianism.
Disclaimer: Don't own them.
A/N: The story starts out funny, then gets angsty, then I swear it ends on one of the fluffiest, sappiest moments imaginable. I originally intended for the entire thing to be comical, but let's face it... that's not the nature of this story unfortunately. Oh and it takes place during season 11 though I guess you wouldn't really be able to tell by reading it. But YAY Alex isn't gone yet!

It took another moment for Olivia to register that it was light out. It was Christmas morning! She could fix things!

She raced out of the room, running down the stairs, ignoring the people staring at her as she grabbed her things and dashed out of the squad room.

She dialed her phone before fumbling with her jacket.

“Hello?” Elliot answered absentmindedly. Olivia could hear his kids laughing in the background.

“Elliot… Set an extra place for dinner.” She thought for a moment. “Make that two. I’m bringing someone.”

Elliot’s shock was evident in his voice. “Really?”

“Really!” Olivia laughed. “I’ll see you later, Elliot. I got something I have to take care of first.”

Elliot grinned. “Great! See you later! Five-o-clock… Don’t be late!”

“I won’t!” Olivia laughed again and hung up before driving home.

She parked and hurried inside, shrugging off her coat and kicking off her shoes. She bit her lip and began digging through her drawers, finally pulling out a white tank top and her favorite black sweater. She tugged them on and grabbed a pair of her tight black jeans, knowing just what she needed to finish the look.

She hurried to her closet, digging around in the back before emerging with her old leather jacket. Alex had loved this one. She pulled it on and found her old boots, pulling them on as well, taking a long look in the mirror before another thought occurred to her.

She crouched down and pulled a small box from the back of the closet. It contained the few Christmas items she had. She extracted her Santa hat easily and tugged it on.

She bit her lip and stood, opening her jewelry box and pulling out two necklaces. It’d been so long since she’d even looked at them. She tucked them both gently in her pocket, grabbing her things before heading out.

She made one more quick stop before finally driving to Alex’s apartment. She knew it was probably wrong but she flashed her badge to the doorman to get the apartment number before taking the elevator up.

She stopped outside, breathing deeply, wondering at her own sanity before she finally knocked at the door.

She stood quietly for a long moment, wondering if the spirits had been wrong, if Alex actually was out of town, but then a very startled blonde opened the door.

“O-Olivia? What are you doing here?” Her eyes widened more as she gazed over the detective’s outfit.

“Just thought you deserved to have a Santa again.” She said, smiling softly as she held out a wrapped package. “Merry Christmas, Alex.”

Alex stared at the present, meeting her eyes for a moment before finally reaching out a hand and nervously taking it.

“D-Do you want to come in?” She asked.

“Sure!” Olivia smiled, stepping in.

They stood awkwardly in the entryway.

“Open it.” Olivia gently prodded.

Alex swallowed hard, finally opening her present.

Inside was a small porcelain ornament of a little girl with blonde hair. In one hand, she clutched a blanket and in the other, a teddy bear with a Santa hat.

“I don’t know why,” Olivia said quietly, both women gazing at the ornament. “But every time I passed it, I thought of you.”

“It’s beautiful.”Alex said quietly.

Olivia smirked slightly, finally looking up. “Well yeah, that might have had something to do with it.”

Alex’s eyes snapped up and Olivia saw the tears forming in them.

“I-I’m sorry…” Olivia said, not sure what she was apologizing for.

Alex shook her head. “No. Thank you. This means a lot to me.” She thought for a moment before gently wrapping her arms around Olivia.

Olivia hugged her back. “You’re welcome.” She kissed her cheek. “I think it reminded me of how innocent you always were at Christmas.” She said as she pulled back. “I loved spending Christmas with you just because of how much you truly got into the Christmas spirit.”

Alex shrugged. “Well we all have to grow up some time.” She walked over to her tree, gazing over it to determine where to put her new ornament.

“No we don’t.” Olivia said.

Alex didn’t look at her, instead finding the perfect branch and sliding it on. She bit her lip as she turned back to Olivia.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t get you anything.”

Olivia shrugged. “There’s only one thing I want for Christmas this year anyway.” She said.

Alex gazed at her curiously.

Olivia finally pulled the necklaces from her pocket and held Alex’s up.

“You.” She said, quietly.

The tears slipped down Alex’s cheeks as she looked between Olivia and the necklace before she finally threw her arms around the brunette, hugging her tightly.

Olivia hugged her back, kissing her cheek as she gently slipped the necklace into place. She could hear Alex crying softly into her shoulder and she gently rubbed her back.

“Shh… I’ve got you.”

“Thank you.” Alex whispered.

“I should be thanking you. You saved me, Alex.”

Alex lifted her head and gazed at her curiously. “I-I did?”

“Mmhmm.”

“How?”

“By just being you.” Olivia smiled softly. “It’s your first Christmas back with us and I guess it got me thinking.” She cupped her cheek. “You made me believe in Christmas again.”

Alex swallowed hard, gazing at her for a long moment before looking down. “You should put your necklace on too.” She said quietly.

Olivia laughed softly. “I should.” She held it out to her. “Would you like to do the honors?”

Alex nodded a little, taking it from her and gently slipping it around her neck. “It’s nice to see these again.” She admitted.

“It is.” Olivia said. She gently brushed her fingers through Alex’s hair. “Do you have plans today?”

Alex shook her head.

“Elliot invited me to dinner. I told him to set a place for you. Well… he doesn’t know it’s for you but… it’ll be set… If you wanna come…”

Alex smiled slowly. “I’d like that.”

“Good.” Olivia grinned. “Would you like to head over there?”

“Sure.” Alex nodded.

“Great!” Olivia thought for a moment. “Just one more small thing before we go…”

Alex’s brow furrowed as Olivia dug in her pocket, concealing what she was holding until she held it over her own head, revealing the mistletoe with a grin.

“I promise I won’t screw it up this time.”

Alex laughed and threw her arms around her, kissing her deeply. Olivia slid her arms around her waist, the mistletoe falling to the ground as she clutched Alex tighter, losing herself in the feel of the blonde pressed against her, feeling all at once so familiar and yet so new.

They stopped at a few places on the way to Elliot’s and stocked up on presents for the kids before heading over.

When Elliot opened the door, his jaw dropped before he grinned broadly, noting that Alex and Olivia were holding hands.

“Come on in!” He said merrily.

Kathy emerged from the kitchen, beaming. “Olivia! You made it!” She walked over and gave her a hug, kissing her cheek.

Olivia hugged her back. “Thank you for having me over.”

“Any time.” Kathy said, pulling back and turning to Alex. “Alex!” She laughed, hugging her as well. “It’s been so long! How are you?”

“I’m wonderful!”She said, shooting a loving smile in Olivia’s direction. “How are you?”

“Great!” Kathy pulled back. “You two get settled. I’ll get us some wine and then we’ll all catch up!”

Alex and Olivia nodded and the brunette noticed that the Stabler children were eyeing the bag she was carrying.

“Oh?” She said. “Do you want something?”

“Yes!” Eli spoke up, causing everyone to laugh.

Olivia handed the bag over to Maureen to divide the presents amongst them and she and Alex sat on the couch, watching as they opened their things.

Olivia wrapped an arm around Alex’s shoulder, each accepting a glass of wine from Kathy before she sat in Elliot’s lap in the chair. Both blondes nestled against their partners.

Somehow, Olivia just knew that this time, she wouldn’t lose this feeling. This time, she had the magic of Christmas and it was here to stay.

She hugged Alex tighter to her side, kissing the top of her head. And quite possibly the most important thing of all… She knew Butchy was proud.
