More on Joe the Screecher

So, apparently, at 10:30 pm yesterday, Rob Miller (Joe Wilson's Democratic opponent) had $3,000 in donations at his ActBlue page. If you click that link, you'll see what a difference two rude words make.

Just 24 hours later, the kitty now stands at $636,419.00. It's been hilarious to watch, because every time I go back to the page, it's up tens of thousands of dollars. Joe Wilson basically just gave the man over half a million dollars for his war chest. This, of course, is just the money he's getting through that one grassroots site. Who knows how much more he's getting elsewhere. I'm sure Joe is also getting his fair share of cash for being disrespectful and misleading on international television. But last time these two ran, it broke down 54/46, based on an article I saw earlier. A lot of people had Wilson for a lock in 2010, without the Obama/Presidential bump for the Democrats... well, I think the Dems just got a bump in his district, and I hope some Republicans don't feel inclined to show up on election day. I have no idea how this impacts things, but it seems people who follow such things have moved Wilson from "solid" to "likely". And there's a whole year (and probably a million dollars or more from this incident) to move him from "likely" to "unlikely". Or, y'know, for people to forget. So it's anybody's guess. But here's hoping he's sweating it.

Also, while I'm in this headspace - Remember back when you could get arrested for trying to bring a sign to a Bush speech? Or wearing the wrong t-shirt to an address? Isn't it great that now members of Congress can call out the President during speeches and citizens can bring loaded rifles to Presidential speeches? Gotta love double-standards.

Actually, you kind of do. As much as I hate it, it's part of the moral high ground. And you want to defend from the high ground where possible.

ETA: So, apparently, in 2008, when he got 46% of the vote, Miller's operating budget for the election was around $300,000. I think he's going to be able to do a bit more this time around.
