The Cake

So here they are: pictures and a vid of the Cylon Centurion cake I made for Ben's birthday, complete with a red LED scanning eye.

The cake it'self was made of fudge (aka "killer") brownies and red velvet cake.  The advantage to these brownies is that they're so dense and so soft that one can mold them, when needed.  The line of brownie running perpendicular to the skewer on the left is actually scraps that I jambed in to even out the layer.

Saturday morning, I discovered that the buttercream I had made the day before had separated.  Ben was going to arrive in about half an hour, which was not enough time for me to make more and do all the assembly I'd had planned.  Luckily, one of our neighbors lent me her kitchen so I could finish the construction, including the red velvet.  You can see the line of LEDs running between the bottom layer of red velvet and the top layer of brownie.

Here's the finished cake:

The best part of doing red velvet cake for the brain?  When you cut it open....
