New show
Just watched Castle. Even if the premise had sucked (which it didn't) I still would have tuned in because I deeply adore Nathan Fillion. Castle was a little predictable, but on the whole was very good--I enjoyed the banter quite a bit. Yes, it's yet another crime drama and yes, all of the weekly mysteries have probably been done many times before, but it was bright and fresh and satisfying. Of all the shows currently on air with Jossverse people (Bones, Sarah Connor, Dollhouse) I like this one the most. Bones is fun and usually interesting, but they've done some really, REALLY stupid things over the years with character development (mostly I'm talking about Zach, but there have also been a lot of times when they could have delved deeper into someone's psyche and they just blew right by for expediency's sake). Sarah Connor, while mostly redeemed by Summer Glau kicking ass, has very little smart, exciting writing. Also, no one ever smiles. Dollhouse...I really want to love it. But the writing isn't up to par with Joss's other shows, and it just isn't compelling in the same way Buffy or Firefly was.
So: after one episode of Castle, it has moved to the top of my Jossverse list. ABC has it up online in high-def, but you have to install a plugin for their player.
Not sure what else I'm going to watch during tonight's round of insomnia, but I'm sure I'll find something on Hulu.
