the surprise!
ok.....so for the past few weeks, my mom has been telling me to keep march 15th free. at first, i thought it was for babysitting.
but then she said it was a surprise for me.....so i thought it was a spa type of thing.
but then she said that i had to BART to berkeley right after school....definitely not spa related.
so megan and i kept trying to think of what it could be. but it was quite hard.
then i heard my parents talk about music....a concert maybe? what kinda though? that was the mystery.
well, i go take bart. go to starbucks. wait for my sister there for an hour. she picks me up and tells me that i'm going to a jazz concert seeing dave brubeck Quartet and ramsey lewis trio. omgosh!! i was super happy!! it was a bday gift from my sister. man...ok after i find out, i go to one of my sister's classes and then we went out for sushi.
ok, the concert. amazing!! these two groups were so talented, but so different. their styles were different. but wow! half the time i just wanted to get up and dance!! even on the slow songs...just get up and sway a bit. i couldn't stop smiling (though near the end i started not feeling well). but what an experience. dave brubeck is 86 years old! he was born in 1920 and has played with charlie parker, dixxy gillepsie and is from concord, california! remsey is from chicago and started playing piano when he was 4 and was playing chopin, bach and beethoven. and then got into his church, and then jazz. so a lot of his work had gospel in it. but i loved it!
the concert was a great experience and taking bart was so worth it! but iahted sleeping late @ 12 and then waking up at 6. boo! but its ok. i felt independent. and now i can take bart wher eever and not be too scared. crazy people on bart though, so watch out. : )
