land of the living skies

We were just awoken by the most frightening thunder and lightning storm I've ever heard/seen. There were flashes of lightning in the distance about three hours earlier but it wasn't too ominous. Looking out my window, I can see 25th street is flooded between 3rd and 4th Avenue with the water level high enough to cover the wheels of a regular sized sedan. The lightning is constant, a flash at least every 3 seconds and the wind blew our balcony screen door off its tracking. My window is covered in raindrops and there was some hail too. Silas just keeps saying "holy shit, holy shit!" This is the first time I've watched a storm approach over the course of several hours. That's Saskatchewan for you.

The river today was already bursting to the point where you can't even see the weir, and moving twelve times faster than normal. All the flooding happening in Alberta has had people here pretty worried. It's pretty scary. But being the nerd I am I thought, "I should blog about this!"

It sounds like it has mostly passed now. Goodnight.
