Shants with pride

Jul 07, 2006 23:47

I remember the times when my days were short and my memories clear with chickin, beef, tofu and shrimp. Those times begin to fade, with Dallas, Ft. Worth and Austin checked off the list.

But before we get to that...The Toy and Action Figure Museum in Pauls Vally, OK. Plus meeting Blanka.

So I'm drivin down the highway, on the way to Dallas, mindin my own business, when all of the sudden, there is a massive billboard with Wolverine on it. Now you all know me, what would make me happier than seeing a large depiction of Wolverine? Well yes theres that, but I was alone in the car. So it was off to Pauls Vally, Oklehoma to track down The Berzerker himself, or at least in action figure form. It was 7:30pm at this point, the museum was closed, but El Pueblo was not. El Pueblo was a hole in the wall, Mexican joint across the street from the local high school, perfect setting for some damn good salsa con queso. I walk in, and these obvious girls of mexican heratige are manning the waitressing duties. It became quite clear that this was a family owned joint, which i was a fan, support the underground. But then it just became too cute, the girls, looking fully Mexican, asked how I was with perfet Oklehoma/texan accents, it was adorable. So needless to say, the encheladas were good, but the conversation was rockin. I mainly talked to the one girl, and life here was so very differnt, which I obviously already knew, but I could see it in her eyes, just simple, in the best possible way.

(And the best part, her name...Blanca. Thats right, E. Honda and Blanca, together. If your scratching your head, ask Tony G.)

I started heading south with two options, sleep at a rest stop, or go for gold and check out the Chickasaw National Recreation Area in the dark. I obviously headed for the Au, and wound my way 10 mils off the highway to the Guy Spring campsight at the Chickasaw Natl. Rec. Area, and proceeded to set up my tent by the lights of the Fit. It was hardcore to say the least, but I got a great nights sleep for 12 bucks (which I had to insert into the "iron ranger" which was just a metal box) and an adventure as well.

So it was back north again to obtain my initial goal, The Toy and Action Figure Museum. One mans collection turned towns main attraction, it was a small museum, but its all relative, the subjects themselves are also small. There was an entire Batman room which had shit loads of Dark Knight memorabilia. And the beset part, a mock set up of a kids room, with tons and tons of action figures set up in the mode of Toy Story, all over the room. Plus, the back of the scene was wallpapered with still-wrapped action figures. Highlights included:

MANY Wolveine figures
An entire Uncanny X-Men Team
An entire Original X-Men Team, topped off with Angle strung in the air in mid flight
Two different Apocolypse figures
An Age of Apocolypse Cyclopse
A bad ass Gambit
A set of Captain Planet figures
12" Spinal Tap figures
The X-Jet

There isn't much more I can say about that, or Dallas for that matter. Dallas was where I headed after this, and there was nothin happen in this town, so I went to Ft. Worth...

Ft. Worth rocks socks all over Dallas, twice. Ft. Worth was a chilled out, hiped out downtown zown. I dug it, and I wasn't even there for more than 5 hrs. What sold Ft. Worth for me, was not the free parking (which you think would have been the kicker) but, Ft. Worth had wonderfully nice and attractive people, good times all around. This waitress I met at this tex-mex joint was from Georgia, Kristen. She has a baby, likes Phish and went to Bonaroo pregnant, we bonded. To relax before my night drive toward Austin, I saw And Inconviant Truth. Very informative and interesting, but not much cinamaticly, no suprise there, but I definatly learned something, a lot of things. I am now going to walk the rest of my trip to single handidly rebuild the ozone. Thats a lie, I could never do that, I would also have to stop wearing leather, and I just bought that sweet new Mexico belt.

I apologize for the long post, but soooo much has happened, I don't want to leave anything out! for continuity reasons. But here I am, at my first relatives stop of the trip, my Uncle's house in Austin, TX. I got to Austin around noon, went to an amazing record shop, Waterloo Records, went to the University of Texas Campus, which is right in the city, drove out to his house, which is right on this great lake, had a dinner on the same lake, and saw this crazy bat phenomenon. I must stop this soon to become run on for two things.

First, the record store. It was not the size that was impressive, but the selection. I bought four records, all of which I had either been looking for, or had never heard of. First, I found a Clash bootleg I didn't even know exisisted. Second, the first Elected record was mine for the taking, very excited about that one. Third and Fourth, for those of you who know me and/or know records, finding Belle and Sebastian records, on vinyl, is not an easy thing, they are all imported, and sell very quickly. Well, I managed to complete my Belle and Sebastion collection today with, Are You Feeling Sinister? and...Tigermilk! Now the first on is impressive yes, but Tigermilk, I was speechless, fuckin unbelivable. I can not wait to get to a turntable. Big day, yes it was.

Ok, Second, the bats. I know, bats? But yes, bats. There was a bridge built here in Austin, and the I-beams used for this bridge happen to be the perfect habbitat for these Mexican bats, they migrate here in the summer, and back to Mexico for the winter. But while they're here, they coming flying out from under this bridge, over one million of them. Yes, one million. So impressive, that Quintin Terintino and Fionna Apple were there checkin 'em out the last night. I know, bats.

There is a party here tomorrow, and supposedly there may be a female college student coming (the main attendance is my aunts co-workers, this possiblity being a daughter) My only hope, her name is Chung Lee

Music listened to has gotton out of control, main highlight-

Shants with pride, always

In the end, my 1,000 hand-slap destroyed her electric shock.
