Author's notes: The very early morning in which Maes and Roy discover Izumi is on her way to them.
When Maes woke up that morning, there was something bothering him. He sat up and threw a suspiscious glance around the room, then shot a *look* at his husband`s sleeping form when he saw his clothes strewn on the floor on his side of the room. He stood and picked the clothing, neatly folding them and placing them in their dirty clothes basket, then nodded to himself in satisfaction, finally allowing himself to yawn and stretch. But... something continued to bother him. He pursed his lips and scanned the floor, then placed his boots and Roy`s into a neat row, using a wandless cleaning charm on them just in case. He tidied up their bedside tables, sweeped their room, folded his covers and tidied his side of the bed. Whatever was wrong continued to elude him. He walked towards the mirror and made a face at himself, then moved it as he noticed it was a few centimeters off its usual position. When that still didn`t dispel the feeling, he passed a hand through his hair in frustration and... there! He blinked at his marriage bracelet`s reflected image, then looked at it`s real conterpart. The usually white small stones encrusted into the golden band had exchanged colours. They were now a lighter shade of cobalt blue. As soon as the colour registered with his brain, a wide smile spread on his face. He skipped back towards the bed and looked at Roy`s wrist. True enough, the stones there were green. With something that might resemble a squeal, he glomped his husband`s sleeping form and nuzzled his neck (pushing to the back of his mind the realisation he needed a shaving) even as Roy started awake and let out a string of what probably were curses in japanese.
"Good morning, my lovely husband~!" he said cheerfully, and he could bet Roy cursed his mother in japanese right then.
"What on earth did you wake me up this way for?! Is it Yule already?" he grumbled finaly, and Maes was mildly impressed he didn`t even use the word 'Hell'. He filed that fact away for future reference; it had not been long since they had started living together and Maes was still testing his solid grounds with Roy.
"No. But we got our gifts earlier this year." he said cheerfully, kissing Roy`s jaw. Roy let out a deep sigh, one that said he was resigning himself to something, then he felt a hand in his hair.
"What, Maes?" he asked with a sleepy voice, yawning and apparently getting ready to sleep again after the news was spread. Maes grinned and reached for the hand that was not craddled over his head, and since it was Roy`s bracelet arm, he held it in front of Roy`s face.
"Guess it." he said in a singsong voice, and Roy completely ignored him. At least until he opened his eyes. Then he gasped and snatched his hand from Maes` grip, his eyes wide as he stared at his bracelet. Too much of a shock too early in the morning to keep his composure. Maes lifted his head and beamed down at him.
"I may have forgotten what green means." he said after a couple of seconds and a deep breath. Maes took his hand again and kissed it, then his bracelet, before pushing it to the mattress and looking down into the currently wide dark eyes he loved.
"It means I am going to be daddy!" he said excitedly and Roy groaned, closing his eyes. He was sure Roy had known the meaning, so he went on tactlessly. "And you are going to be mommy. I will watch you grow beautifully with my baby and I will get to search for strange and likely disgusting foods in the middle of the night to satisfy your cravings." the hand on his hair pulled tightly on it and Roy turned to dump him on the floor. Maes clung to him to avoid falling.
"Get off me and let me sleep." he snapped, but his voice sounded more annoyed than sleepy at the moment. Maes looked into his face and quickly analysed if he was pushing Roy too far. Then he grinned evily.
"Oh, are the mood swings starting? Will you let your hair grow, so I can hold it away from your face when you throw up?" he yelped when Roy started to shine and he was pushed away with magic this time. He fell to the floor with a *thud*, but he felt a cleaning spell rushing through him and keeping him from the floor`s dust before he even had time to panic. He felt his heart swell at Roy`s thoughtfulness, but he gave no outward sign.
"The only thing I am throwing is you out of the window if you don`t let me sleep right now." he glared then turned on his side with his back to his husband. Maes jumped on the bed at his side, then his grin turned into a soft smile as he saw Roy looking thoughtfully at his bracelet. Now was not the right moment to tease.
"How do you feel about this?" he asked softly, placing his hand over his so their bracelets were side by side. Roy`s eyes flickered between the two.
"I don`t know." he answered after a couple of minutes, truthfully, somehow knowing Maes was asking about his motherhood and not their child. He was silent for a couple of minutes, then he pulled their hands from between their faces and threw Maes a warning look. "But if you fret over me, I am making you regret our places are not reversed." the smile Roy got in reply to that made the hairs on his neck stand.
"Oh, but mommies suffer so carrying their little miracles. It is the daddy`s job to lessen their suffering." Maes` words and tone of voice were harmless enought, but Roy felt strongly that he would indeed suffer the next ten months.
"Something tells me the only way for you to lessen my suffering is by taking a ten months long vacation to japan." Roy replied warily and Maes watched him innocently for a moment. Then, he beamed.
"I will warn the house-elves not to send anything that might make you sick anywhere near our seats at the table." He said excitedly as he stood and went to follow his morning routine. Roy pressed his lips in a thin line and his eyes closed tightly for a few seconds, then burried his face on his pillows as Maes whistled a happy song.
'I should hide Maes` camera.' the thought came to him suddenly and he snapped his eyes open, staring in horror at his husband`s retreating back until he closed their room`s door behind him. Roy then scrambled to his feet and went quickly towards the place where it was usually kept. His face fell when instead of the box with the photographing camera he found a piece of parchment in which was written:
("I had this idea first, unfortunately for you.
But I love you for knowing me so well. <3
Love,
Your dear hubby.")
He smacked his forehead against the wall. Those were going to be long ten months.
