Nothing of great importance today.

So, many of you know that we have these awesome bookshelves built into our north wall. They're on either side of the fireplace and extend floor to ceiling, twelve feet. They're amazing, but I don't think I'm using them to their best advantage. They aren't organized very well or very aesthetically, and I've decided I want to do a few things here and there to try and brighten up the house. We have pretty much all dark cherry/walnut classic/antique furniture, so to bring that full circle with some modern and bright touches would be great. Here's one of my bookshelves:

I'm thinking about organizing my book collection by color. What do you think about this look:

. . . combined with this look (from Apartment Therapy):

I have a lot of pictures and glass items (I have a glass apple collection), a shelf devoted to historical Colorado mementos, and some antique items my grandmother passed down to me. I'd love to intersperse them with my book collection. I also think the color grouping somehow adds a brightness to a room without having to change major things like paint, furniture, accessories, etc. I'm looking for some low-budget, easy projects to do around the house to make it warmer. I have some ideas . . . some may be a little far out, but it would add pizazz without being completely garish. The rug we bought arrived and there's two problems with it. One, it's really ugly! Two, they sent a 5'x7' rug when I ordered an 8'x10'. We have a large open space that a 5'x7' rug wouldn't begin to cover. I bought a combination anti-slip/rug pad thingee in 8'x10', so that's the size I'm looking for. I've been looking through Apartment Therapy -- and reading the book by Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan -- because we have 1700 square feet (finished) and that's about the size of an apartment.

Why is it that "unscented" lotion smells more strongly than scented?

I got a bottle of "unscented" lotion for Christmas (with Aloe Vera and Illipe Nut (what is Illipe Nut?)) and the"unscent" is so strong that it's scented! The scent is "Unscented"!

I didn't mention this before -- because we didn't open our Christmas presents until February, d'oh! -- but my family (whom I love very much and appreciate beyond measure) was kind of batshit this year when it came to presents. For example, I received a South Park Christmas tree ornament (W. T. F. ?!?!), a baseball ornament, a jar of pineapple chutney (I don't even know what chutney is, but I'm going to be honest and say it doesn't look appetizing at all and I have a strong suspicion that we got re-gifted on this one), the scented unscented lotion, a Home Depot gift card, and the usual gift of bath salts from my mother, even though she knows only the shower works in our bathroom and not the tub. DH received a box of chocolate-covered walnuts. A received a Sonic game, which she likes, and H received a set of books.

LOL, I just had to use scented lotion to cover the unscented, the (alleged) non-smell was bothering me that much! A little Butterfly Flower from B&BW did the trick. Better lotion, too, tbh.

Is it true the Oxford comma is going the way of the dodo? I sincerely hope not. I used this example at Stack Exchange recently: I'd like to thank my parents, Ayn Rand, and God (with Oxford comma) versus I'd like to thank my parents, Ayn Rand and God (without Oxford comma). Personally, I like the Oxford comma and think it helps clarify statements and sentences. I heard it's being phased out and I can't help but wonder why. I know the British style of writing does not include the Oxford comma. Geez, it'd be like switching to the metric system! Oh, Oxford comma! Don't leave us now!
